After another disappointing season in 2009, Mathematics captain Derek Tagliarino recognized the daunting task facing him. He noted, “Something had to be done. We had won nine [regular season] games in the last two years. This may be a fun, social league, but it’s tough to have a good time when you lose that much. We really needed a team makeover.”
The makeover actually began towards the end of last season with the additions of Justin “Ballard” Perras and Mike Smith to tighten up the Mathematics’ defense, which was the statistically the league’s worst. However, Perras and Smith were only the first pieces of the puzzle. Thus, after a busy offseason of acquisitions, a buzz is now in the air among the Mathematics’ diminutive but loyal fanbase (the Math Addicts). With some of the hottest young talents signing on, the the team’s supporters have reason to be optimistic for the upcoming season. Tagliarino remains a little more cautious about prognosticating, “Unfortunately, you don’t win anything for doing well in the Hot Stove League. Even if you did, it doesn’t always translate into wins.”
With 2009’s All Rookie Team goalie Joe Boshko battling injuries, the Mathematics’ first task was to find a suitable replacement. What they found was one of the league’s biggest personalities in Hector “$howT!m3” Melendez. Although he has played very few BTSH games as a net-minder, Melendez boasts a great record and is versatile enough to play offense if Boshko is healthy. Also new to the team are Sean “$howJu” McClain (also on the ’09 All Rookie Team) and Scott Lee, two 20-year old sensations who are sure to give their new team a fresh jolt of energy. Tagliarino comments, “It’s bizarre to me to have two players born in the 1990s, although I guess it’s just as bizarre that Father Time [Ant Ventolieri] and (S)crappy [Tim Gray] are still in the league with birth years in the 1920s.”
If nothing else, the Mathematics are hopeful that their new youthful additions will give the team some much needed swagger, something they claim was missing in the past few seasons.
Professional Wrestler They Closely Resemble: Evan Bourne. They’re definitely at the bottom of the pack right now, but with age on their side, they still have good potential to rise in the ranks in the future.
Fast Fact: Team veteran Brad Schmidt is not allowed to have any input on team decisions.

I thought the wrestlers they closely resemble would be Santino and Santina Morrella!! Just kidding guys!
I am looking forward to many of the matchups this year. I have learned a lot playing for the Unicorns, Mega Touch (aka Bad Touch) and the Rehabs. Now it’s time to turn it up a notch.
Santina wants her thongs back Rich.
I wonder what Ben Chadwick’s take on all of this is.
Glad you asked, Rich. Actually I have none. I remain cautiously ambivalent.
I have played in more then 12 games since 2002. I think I played in about 5 lasy year. I can say that in the 12, Only 2 regulation losses and 1 overtime loss, including back to back games and over 70minutes of shut out hockey until the last 1:20 of the Rehab v. Demons game.
We’re counting on you, $how.
They don’t call me $h0wT!m3 for no reason. I have lived up to the hype for 9 years and this year it won’t change!
