Lazer & the Bluenoser Make It Official

Wednesday, April 18th, 2012

The ORG would be remiss in not extending our heartiest congratulations to Derek “Lazer” Tagliarino and Michelle “Chowda” Doucet on their recent engagement.

While Larry Zimmerman is pissed that Derek didn’t ask for his blessing, the rest of the league seems very happy for them. Michelle’s insistence that she will wear a WTP orange colored wedding dress at the upcoming nuptials may assuage some of the Zimm’s hurt feelings. Meanwhile, Rich Glanzer’s offer to perform the ceremony because “I’m not only a Captain but the greatest Captain in BTSH history” has been gently rebuffed.

No word on a date yet but Michelle has told us that it needs to be “sometime after the end of hockey season and my touring company’s all female production of JOSEPH AND THE AMAZING TECHNICOLOR DREAMCOAT wraps up.”

Congrats again to the happy couple.

Cobra Kai 2012 Update

Tuesday, March 20th, 2012

The hockey gods giveth and the hockey gods taketh away.

In disappointing news for the Dojo, team doctors inform us that star player Rem “Orange Crush” Garavito will miss the first few weeks of the season with a knee injury. Best wishes for a speedy recovery, Rem. And remember, you can still drink beer with a torn meniscus (the ORG speaks from experience).

When the stars go down, other team members have to step up. And Meredith Sladek has decided that there just aren’t enough co-captains named Meredith in the league. She’s formed a ruling triumvarate with Will Kuhns and Greg Altman in order to inflict even harsher discipline on her (until now) unsuspecting teammates). As Will told the ORG “Her default is happy Bohemian, but she also draws pictures of eviscerated Penguins, which suits our villian-ish guise.” The ORG congratulates Sladek on her new position and looks forward to seeing her practice her drawing skills by sending personalized notes to Tim Brown, Stacy Kehoe and the rest of the Crosby lovers throughout the league.

It’s Showtime!

Monday, March 19th, 2012

No, you're not seeing things. He's back.

The crazy weather we’ve had over the last few months may have convinced you otherwise but winter is over folks. You know that the season of ice and snow is no longer upon us when you hear phrases like:

“I’m so out of shape.”

“I haven’t picked up a stick since September.”

“Are you a Captain?”

“Wait a minute, is that Showtime?”

Yep, the annual BTSH version of Rush Week took place yesterday with countless free agents competing for a few coveted roster spots. For some, a lifelong goal will come true as they go to “the Show” and get the chance to get drunk on $2 Hi Lifes, complain about Peaches unwillingness to wear clothing, and wonder why everyone is talking about the good old days and their Johnsons. You’re living the dream kids, living the dream.

For the rest of us, it’s usually more of an “Ohmigod” moment as we realize we need new sneakers, probably should have gone easy on the lemon squares over the winter (I’m looking at you, Arthur Revechkis) and dodge our Captains because we haven’t paid our league fees yet. This week, things kick in to high gear so make sure you’re registered, sign up for the BTSH e-mail and look forward to the following events:

Friday early evening – ritual humiliation of new Anklebiters players

Friday – 8:00 pm – Season Opening party at the Parkside Lounge

Sunday – 12 pm – first regular season games

Sunday – 1:02 pm first regular season beers drank at the ACE

Monday – 7 am – first post-BTSH hangover of the year

Make sure you take advantage of all the exciting events on offer during Opening Week and remember it’s all about having fun.

Game On This Sunday!

Wednesday, March 14th, 2012

Are you a BTSHer who can’t wait for the season to get started? A free agent looking to get picked up by a team? A twisted sexual predator who’s particular fetish is pasty white legs and heavy breathing?

Then Tompkins Square Park is the place for you this Sunday. Come down from 12 pm – 6 pm as the league hosts its annual open scrimmage, a chance for experienced players to shake off the winter rust and new players to find out what the league is all about. Open scrimmage is generally a party atmosphere but there are a few things to remember:

1) GO TO THE REGISTRATION LINK ON THIS SITE AND REGISTER TO PLAY

2) IF YOU ARE A FREE AGENT PLEASE WEAR A RED SHIRT (SO CAPTAINS WILL KNOW THAT YOU’RE LOOKING FOR A TEAM)

3) IF YOU ARE A RETURNING PLAYER PLEASE BRING BOTH A LIGHT AND DARK SHIRT

4) GREY DOES NOT COUNT AS LIGHT OR DARK, MORONS.

5) WE TEND TO HAVE A LOT OF PLAYERS AT OPEN SCRIMMAGE SO PLEASE KEEP YOUR SHIFTS A REASONABLE LENGTH.

6) WE ARE GUESTS AT THE PARK. RESPECT THE COMMUNITY AND PICK UP YOUR TRASH.

Scrimmage is for everyone so feel free to participate no matter what your skill level is. This year more than others there are a lot of BTSH teams looking for new players so if you are a free agent make sure you talk to as many people as possible.

Wondering where to go on Sunday?
