Hockey Night In Tompkins Schedule

Sunday, February 27th, 2011

When BTSH moved to Tompkins Square Park in 2009, the previously dreaded late game quickly became a lot more desirable.  In addition to the obvious benefit of allowing players to sleep in from their Saturday night activities, the new location allowed more spectators to stay and cheer on the competing teams.  Bars and restaurants were now in close proximity, and league members didn’t mind watching the late game, as civilization was just a two minute walk from the court.  Combine these advantages with your humble correspondents’ increased focus on the late game matchups in the weekly previews, and the tradition of Hockey Night in Tompkins was born.

Extended coverage of the prestigious Hockey Night in Tompkins games began during the 2010 season.  Teams playing in this coveted time slot began to anticipate longer, more thorough previews written by BTSH.org’s cub reporter Jesse Kalb.  His unique style and extremely accurate “Jesse the Greek” predictions garnered him a cult-like following among even the most casual of site readers.  As a result, we at the media are extremely proud to announce that Kalb will return to cover the Hockey Night in Tompkins games in the 2011 season.

Thus, with anticipation building on who will have the privilege to compete on this league-wide stage, here is the complete Hockey Night in Tompkins schedule for the 2011 season:

Opening Day Schedule Released!

Wednesday, February 23rd, 2011

Sorry, ‘Biters, You’ve Been Demoted

Even though there is still snow on the ground, the BTSH season is rapidly approaching.  Once again, the league will consist of 20 teams divided into two conferences and four divisions.  As a reward for winning their respective divisions, the Tompkins Square Riots, Fresh Kills, and the Rehabs have been promoted to a higher division.  In addition, despite failing to win the prestigious, yet imaginary, Fairy Tale Cup, the Happy Little Elves were also promoted.  Here is the new divisional breakdown:

Weyersberg Conference
Rubens Division: Corlears Hookers, Denim Demons, Filthy Gorgeous, Happy Little Elves, Rehabs
Hackett Division: Dark Rainbows, Fresh Kills, LBS, Inc., Sky Fighters, What The Puck

Schumacher Conference
Donohue Division: Butchers, Cobra Kai, La Famiglia, Tompkins Square Riots, Unicorns
MacNeil Division: Gouging Anklebiters, Gut Rot, Mathematics, Mega Touch, Poutine Machine

As in 2010, each team will play the other four teams in its division twice, the other five in its conference once, and five teams from the other conference once.

Regular season play will commence on Sunday, March 27.  As is now tradition, Opening Day will consist primarily of divisional games and will feature a rematch of the preceding season’s championship.  The full schedule will be released on Tuesday, March 1, but to whet your appetite, the Opening Day schedule is posted after the break.

Hockey Night In Tompkins Schedule

Wednesday, March 17th, 2010

Prior to the 2009 season, teams in BTSH always dreaded seeing a late game time listed on their schedule.  With the rest of the league already at the bars, the last game of the day meant playing on an empty court and taking a lonely walk in the dark from Corlears Hook Park (or Moffo Rink) to Rivington Street.  However, when the league moved to Tompkins, the late game took on a whole new meaning.  With bars in close proximity, league members actually stayed to watch their friends compete, even after sunset, making the day’s final contest a much bigger event than it was in years past.  Combine that with your humble correspondents’ increased focus on the late game matchups in the weekly previews, and the tradition of Hockey Night In Tompkins was born.

Thus, with anticipation building on who will have the privilege to compete on this league-wide stage, here is the Hockey Night In Tompkins schedule for the 2010 season:

Opening Day Schedule Released!

Sunday, March 14th, 2010

After several changes in the offseason, the 2010 BTSH season is finally just four weeks away.  The league will now consist of 20 teams with the addition of two expansion teams, the Butchers and a yet unnamed team captained by Amy Jones (formerly of Fresh Kills fame).  Further, the Mighty Squirrels have rebranded as Poutine Machine under the leadership of new captain Patrick “Sven” Larsen, while, under little to no leadership, Mexican Standoff has temporarily rebranded as the Gonorrhea Angels.

The 20 teams will be divided into two 10-team conferences (Weyersberg and Schumacher), with each conference consisting of two 5-team divisions.  They are as follows:

Weyersberg Conference
Rubens Division: Corlears Hookers, Denim Demons, Filthy Gorgeous, LBS, Inc., What The Puck
Hackett Division: Dark Rainbows, Happy Little Elves, Rehabs, Sky Fighters, Unicorns

Schumacher Conference
Donohue Division: Butchers, Cobra Kai, Fresh Kills, Gouging Anklebiters, Tuques
MacNeil Division: Amy Jones’ New Team, Gonorrhea Angels, Mathematics, Mega Touch, Poutine Machine

Each team will play the other four teams in its division twice, the other five in its conference once, and five teams from the other conference once.  The full schedule will be released on Sunday, March 21, but the Opening Day schedule is posted after the break.
