The Games
A BALANCED ATTACK. Ed Lau, Bryan Welch, J.P. Chaput, Greg Weitzman, and Brian Wong each scored a goal as the Rehabs defeated the Mathematics, 5-1. Georgine ‘Mulva’ Paulin scored the lone goal for the Mathematics.
MOLLY JACOBS DOES NOT LOSE ON PRIDE WEEKEND. Fernando Limonic and Phil Yang each registered hat tricks, Tommy Capotosta scored two goals, and Molly Jacobs added one goal to keep her unbeaten record on Pride Weekend intact, as LBS raced by the Mighty Squirrels, 9-3. The goal scorers for the Mighty Squirrels were Arthur ‘Lil’ Weezy’ Revechkis, Patrick Larsen, and Mike Mincieli. Mighty Squirrels goalie Tim ‘Scrappy’ Gray added “I would have had a shutout if it weren’t for those eight goals.†Unfortunately for him, nine minus eight is one, which does not constitute a shutout.
THE GOUGING ANKLEBITERS LOVE FREE TACOS MORE THAN THE TUQUES DO. In a game with free tacos and alcohol from San Loco hanging in the balance, the Gouging Anklebiters received goals from Eric ‘El Guapo’ DiPierri, Alex Owen, Charles DeFranco, Phil Donohue, and Mike Menkes for a 5-2 victory against the Tuques. Dean Keyworth and Bill Monahan each scored a goal for the Tuques.
IN OTHER GAMBLING NEWS. The Corlears Hookers rallied from a two-goal deficit to remain undefeated, and win a bottle of champagne, with a 5-3 victory against Filthy Gorgeous. Josh Sadlier-Brown scored the game winner midway through the second half for the Corlers Hookers, who also received two goals from Peter Putka and one goal each from Dustin Olson and Brendan ‘Dutch’ Kearney. All of the scoring for Filthy Gorgeous came from the Pereira family, with James scoring two goals and his brother Joe scoring one. After the game, the Corlears Hookers shared their champagne winnings with Filthy Gorgeous.
GABBY CARSON HAS A FLAIR FOR THE DRAMATIC. Gabby Carson scored on the final attempt of the shootout to lead the Denim Demons past Mexican Standoff, 3-2, for their fifth consecutive victory. Both female shooters scored in the shootout, as Beth Conroy scored for Mexican Standoff, and Steve Chernoski also scored for the Denim Demons in the shootout. In regulation, the Denim Demons received goals from Lena Moy-Borgen and Dave Shyu, while Ben Bloom and Tommy Cho scored for Mexican Standoff. Ellery ‘The Nature Boy’ Gillette was pleased with his plus/minus rating of +1 for the Denim Demons.
WHAT THE PUCK WOULD LIKE TO REMIND YOU THAT THEY ARE THE 2006 BTSH CHAMPIONS. After taking a pre-game team picture with the championship trophy, What The Puck proceeded to put on an offensive showcase with a 7-0 victory against the Bad Touch. Corey ‘Chongo’ Winters and Darrell ‘Accurate Bob’ Hartman each scored two goals, and Tom MacDonald, Brian Vroom, and Mike Woodsworth each scored one goal. Roderick Cruz recorded his league-leading third shutout of the season for What The Puck.
FRESH KILLS JUST GOT EVEN OLDER, IF THAT IS POSSIBLE. Joe Tamburo, Bob ‘Olmec’ Weyersberg, and Alexandre Frenette (on a line with his identical twin brother, Nic, and with their dad in the stands) each scored second-half goals as Fresh Kills rallied from a halftime deficit to defeat Cobra Kai, 3-1, in Jennifer Chen’s final game before moving to California. FK goalie Dave Gil de Rubio suffered a cut to the bridge of his nose in the 2nd, after being crashed into by his own team, causing an extended game delay. Ray Chan scored the lone goal for Cobra Kai, with an assist from Mary Pratt. (Eli Kazin of CK came close to closing the gab when his shot went off the post in the 2nd. -ed.)
WE STILL HAVE THREE UNBEATEN TEAMS. Hector ‘Showtime’ Melendez scored two goals, and Brendan Grainger, Chris Eng, and Ted Kilcommons each scored one goal as the Unicorns remained unbeaten with a 5-1 victory against the Sky Fighters. Martin Cejka scored the lone goal for the Sky Fighters, and although he did not play in this game, Ellery ‘The Nature Boy’ Gillette of the Denim Demons was +1 for the day.
ANOTHER 3-2 VICTORY. P.T. Walkley, John Nielsen, and Sean Reynolds each scored a goal as the Dark Rainbows defeated Pork Fried Rice, 3-2. This was the third consecutive victory by that score for the Dark Rainbows, but for the first time in the streak, overtime was not necessary.

News and Notes
Mexican Standoff deserves a big thank you for putting together the courtside barbeque. Also, anyone who worked the grill deserves thanks, including Roderick Cruz and Corey ‘Chongo’ Winters of What The Puck. Corey even remarked that he may have burnt all the hair off of his knuckles….For those who do not want to walk from Corlears to the bars, you are in luck. The M14A stops every ten to fifteen minutes at the corner of Jackson and Madison, turns on to Grand Street, and will take you all the way to the corner of Delancey and Essex….Rachel ‘A-Korn’ Greene of the Mighty Squirrels was seen at the Johnson’s pouring a beer on the head of Ellery ‘The Nature Boy’ Gillette, probably to celebrate his +1 performance earlier in the day….Starting with the next weekly recap, to give the defenders some more publicity, there will be a new section that will celebrate the Unsung Hero of the week. Anyone can submit a nomination to me, but the nominee must be a defender, and a reason for the nomination must also be provided. If no nominations are submitted for a given week, I will pick a winner at random. Special thanks to Michelle Doucet of What The Puck and Sherman Chan of the Tuques for the idea.

The Games
COBRA KAI DOES IT FOR FLOUNDER. Inspired by an appearance from former teammate Brendan ‘Flounder’ Hay, Cobra Kai ended a four game losing streak with a 5-3 victory against the Bad Touch. Brian Morrison scored two goals, including the game winner, for Cobra Kai, who also received two goals from Mike ‘FLIP!’ Sanfilippo and one goal from Ray Chan. Bill MacGregor scored two goals for the Bad Touch, who also received one goal from Eric Devlin.
JAMES PERIERA WOULD LIKE TO WISH JAMES STEIN A HAPPY FATHER’S DAY. James Periera registered a hat trick, Suvin Malik added two goals, and James Stein recorded the win as Filthy Gorgeous defeated Mexican Standoff, 9-3. Liza Watts, Jonathan ‘Red Pants’ Rick, Joe Periera, and Matt Novick also scored goals for Filthy Gorgeous, who also received a special assist from Adam Coe. This game also featured a great show of sportsmanship, as these two teams, which cheer at each other’s games and go away together kept cool before the game by sharing slices of watermelon.
THE UNICORNS HAVE AN AFFINITY FOR TIES. In a matchup of two of the best goaltenders in the league, Craig Lacombe and Anthony Romeo did not disappoint, as the Rehabs and Unicorns played to a 1-1 tie. Alex Zabala scored in the first half for the Unicorns, and Lateef Nurmohamed scored the Rehabs only goal of the game early in the second half. Neither team scored in the shootout, and Romeo preserved the tie on the last attempt of the shootout by stopping Hector ‘Showtime’ Melendez’s shot as it was just inches away from trickling across the goal line.
NOAH FARKAS IS CREATING A GOALIE CONTROVERSY. Backup goalie Noah Farkas won his fourth straight game in relief of injured starter Jim Morris as the Denim Demons rallied for a 2-1 victory against Fresh Kills. Alexandre Frenette (assisted by Bob ‘Olmec’ Weyersberg and Jennifer Chen) staked Fresh Kills to the early lead, but Abigail Meisterman set up Micael Holmström for the tying goal, setting up a dramatic finish. Holmström’s second goal of the game, with two minutes remaining in regulation, was the game winner, as the Denim Demons held off a final push from Fresh Kills for the victory.
LES TUQUES GAGNENT. Alex Young, Bill Monahan, Alfred Liu, and Gabe Wilson each scored a goal as the Tuques defeated the Sky Fighters, 4-2. Chris Shumaker and Dale Shulmistra scored goals for the Sky Fighters, who used Gouging Anklebiters goalie Mike O’Connor as an emergency replacement.
IT’S AN EMERGENCY GOALIE SPECTACULAR. Mike Taylor scored the only goal of the shootout as Pork Fried Rice prevailed against the Mighty Squirrels, 4-3, in a game featuring Ant Ventolieri in goal for Pork Fried Rice and Kyle Fogden in goal for the Mighty Squirrels. Mike Mincieli’s second goal of the game tied the score with less than one minute remaining in regulation, and Eric Cole also scored for the Mighty Squirrels. The goal scorers for Pork Fried Rice were Taylor, Mike ‘Cupcake’ Bartlett, and Tim Hannon.
DUTCH LIKES SEEING HIS NAME IN PRINT. Brendan ‘Dutch’ Kearney scored two goals, including the game winner in overtime, as the Corlears Hookers remained undefeated with a 4-3 victory against LBS. Molly Jacobs, Ken ‘The Alpha Male’ Poulin, and Tom Capotosta each scored a goal for LBS, who rallied from a second half deficit to force the extra session. Seth Wachtell also made numerous key saves for LBS to keep them within striking distance. Elizabeth Lewis and David Kucharsky also scored goals for the Corlears Hookers.
P.T. STANDS FOR PERFECT TIMING. P.T. Walkley scored his second goal of the game in overtime as the Dark Rainbows defeated the Gouging Anklebiters, 3-2, for their second consecutive overtime win. Jennie Brown also scored a goal for the Dark Rainbows, while Alex Owen and Charles DeFranco were the goal scorers for the Gouging Anklebiters.
LUCKY THIRTEEN. Darrell Hartman scored all four of his goals in the first half as What The Puck raced to their thirteenth consecutive victory with an 8-2 decision against the Mathematics. What The Puck also received two goals from Brian Vroom and one goal each from Tom MacDonald and Larry Zimmer. Andy Levine and Derek Tagliarino each contributed one goal for the Mathematics.

News and Notes
Haanwa Chau of Mexican Standoff is running a skills clinic at Corlears on Sunday at 1:30 PM, prior to the league games. The clinic is targeted to rookies and females, but if someone like Andy Pratt feels like attending, I am sure he would not be turned away. Please reply to Haanwa [at] hotmail [dot] com if you are interested in attending….In last week’s report, Alex Zabala was incorrectly credited with the assist on Caitlin Ervin’s game-winning goal. Hector ‘Showtime’ Melendez made the pass to Caitlin that resulted in the goal….The games at Corlears started forty-five minutes late due to a softball game taking place at Corlears. As a result, the final Corlears game did not end until 7:15 PM….Alex Owen’s goal was his first BTSH goal….The heat was not kind to LBS, as two of their players were seen puking at Moffo….The new resurfacing and repainting at Corlears has reduced the playing surface for the smaller court, which is now approximately seven feet narrower….Finally, a belated happy Father’s Day for all of the fathers in BTSH.

———————————————
GENERAL STUFF
– always clean up after yourself AND your team mates AND your league mates. we always want to make sure that we leave both moffo and corlears CLEANER than we found it. if you see any trash or empty bottles when leaving the games, PITCH IN.
– make sure that all errant balls are chased up and brought back! those suckers cost $$$. it’s wasteful, not only in terms of budget but in terms of creating the demand for more plastic in the world. if you’re a by-stander and you see a ball go out of the rink/park, please chase after it and bring it back!
– if you’re last to play at moffo, and you don’t see anyone taking care of the nets and gear bag, then first check with the refs, and if that doesn’t solve the problem, then please take the nets and gear to the LOADING DOCK of the mini-storage! this is one of the quirks of having one gear manager and two locations – he can’t be in two places at once. in the case of goals and gear bag left in moffo, you don’t have to take the goals apart – just have someone help you take them across the street and put them in the far (east/near the river) corner of the loading dock, and the gear manager will take them from there.
– show up ON TIME for your game! the ref may start your game on schedule, whether or not your team has enough players. don’t be the player who costs your team the game because you showed up late! that could cost you quite a few rounds at the johnsons later!
– and speaking of the johnsons, thanks to brent who provided much tasty pizza last sunday!
– i’ll buy a new broom for corlears this week, and if necessary, bring the blower to blow away the loose asphalt.
– let me know if you have any postings to send to the list (looking for apartment, looking to rent out a room, upcoming gigs, jobs, etc.).

Recap Week 7
Tuesday, June 5th, 2007BTSH WEEKLY RECAP – WEEK 7
by Eli Kazin
The Games
THIS HAS TO BE THE MOST UNINSPIRING GAME OF THE WEEK EVER. Matt Novick scored two goals, Homin Lee and Suvin Malik each added a goal, and according to Filthy Gorgeous captain Monica Russo “one more person scored,†as Filthy Gorgeous shut out the Gouging Anklebiters, 5-0.
DUTCH FEVER…CATCH IT. Gavin Kearney scored the game-winning goal in overtime as the Corlears Hookers remained undefeated with a 3-2 victory against Fresh Kills. Brendan “Dutch†Kearney and Peter Putka also scored for the Corlears Hookers, and Putka may have already caught Dutch Fever, as illustrated by his raucous celebration after scoring from behind his own goal line. Brice Rosenbloom and Alexandre Frenette were the goal scorers for Fresh Kills.
YA, WE’RE A PRETTY GOOD ORGANIZATION, EH. Darrell Hartman scored three goals, and Mike Woodsworth added two goals, including the game winner, as What The Puck also remained undefeated with a 5-1 triumph against the Mighty Squirrels. Kyle Fogden scored the lone goal for the Mighty Squirrels.
DON’T FORGET ABOUT US…WE HAVE NOT LOST YET, EITHER. Alex Zabala scored the only goal of the game midway through the first half, and Craig Lacombe recorded his second shutout of the season as the Unicorns defeated the Tuques, 1-0.
CHANTEL ARROYO DOES NOT TALK TO THE MEDIA. Chantel Arroyo scored two goals, and Lateef Nurmohamed added one goal as the Rehabs beat the Sky Fighters, 3-1. Gina Hackett played the entire game on defense for the Rehabs.
ANTHONY ROMEO WON THIS GAME, TOO. With LBS starting goalie Seth Wachtell unable to play, Anthony Romeo filled in and registered his second win of the day with a 31-save shutout. Jason Bogdaneris scored the only goal of the game late in the second half, as LBS blanked the Dark Rainbows, 1-0.
THERE WAS NO STAGED FIGHT THIS YEAR. In a game that featured numerous great saves from both Stefanie Volanto and birthday boy Noah Farkas, the Denim Demons squeezed past Cobra Kai, 3-2. Jeff Kamen scored two goals, including the game winner, and Zack Tinkleman added one goal for the Denim Demons, while Ray Chan and Brian Morrison scored goals for Cobra Kai.
THE MATHEMATICS ARE UNDEFEATED WHEN SHARIF CORINALDI IS NOT PRESENT. Georgine Paulin scored the game-winning goal, Andy Pratt scored two goals, and Laura MacNeil added a goal as the Mathematics notched a 5-1 victory against Mexican Standoff, despite the absence of co-captain Sharif “The Chocolate Buzzsaw†Corinaldi. Gary Cohen scored the lone goal for Mexican Standoff, who played Len Guinto in goal for the entire game.
PORK FRIED RICE’S TEAM COLOR IS BEST CLASSIFIED AS BURGUNDY. Denis Monty scored two first-half goals, and Tim Hannon scored two second-half goals, including the game winner, as Pork Fried Rice doubled up the Bad Touch, 4-2. Toby Carroll and Christopher Neal scored goals for the Bad Touch.
Nickname Nook With Derek Tagliarino
These people will now be known as the following:
Bob Weyersberg of Fresh Kills is now Olmec.
Jonathan Levine of Cobra Kai is now The Barnacle.
Special Contest Continues One More Week: You get one more week to fire back. There have already been several “clever†nickname submissions for Eli and me, but I want to see what else is out there. If you think you have one, this is your last chance to submit it (to derektag@gmail.com). I’ll post the best nicknames next week, and I will even buy the winner a PBR (pending league backing).
News and Notes
Chris Beauvois of the Corlears Hookers is looking for league members who would be interested in taking pictures at league games so that we can ultimately have pictures taken of every game each week. If you are interested, please let Chris know….Ref of the Month Award goes to Molly Jacobs of LBS for her performance while reffing the Unicorns-Tuques game. Her wrist blocked a blistering Chris Eng shot from hitting her in the head, and the force of it still sent her airborne slightly, but she got right back up with only a skinned knee and continued to ref….Next week’s schedule (see below) features four Moffo games, including a 6 PM matchup, and is different from the traditional six games at Corlears, three games at Moffo formation – it’s correct and NOT a typographical error!….Georgine Paulin’s game-winning goal was also her first BTSH goal.
Upcoming Schedule

3pm Corlears 2 Gouging Anklebiters vs. Denim Demons
