Playoff Preview: Opening Round (Part III)
Can The Demons Finally Lick The Tuques?
#5 Denim Demons (11-3-2-1) vs. #12 Tuques (8-9)
Location: Corlears North, 3:00 PM
All-Time Series: Denim Demons lead 6-1
2008 Result: Week 15 – Tuques 3, Denim Demons 2
Game Notes: For the second straight year, the Denim Demons enter the playoffs as the fifth seed. Although they appeared nearly invincible throughout the first part of the season, they have returned to Earth in the last few weeks. They have now lost three of their last five games, a stretch that began when they lost to the Tuques. Demons captain Adam “Legend Killer” Rubens even remarked that he is actually happy to have a rematch against the Tuques, so the Demons can enact revenge for starting this trend. However, revenge may not come easily. The Tuques are now 8-0 in games where they outscore their opponents. In addition, the 5 vs. 12 game is always a dangerous one for the favorite.
Eli’s Pick: Tuques. An upset would further enhance the best season in team history.
Derek’s Pick: Denim Demons. Rubens is too crafty to lose to the same team twice in one season.
Sean Will Be Better Prepared For This Rematch Than He Was For This Picture
#6 Dark Rainbows (11-5-1) vs. #11 Mighty Squirrels (7-7-3)
Location: Corlears South, 1:00 PM
All-Time Series: Dark Rainbows lead 5-0
2008 Result: Week 13 – Dark Rainbows 3, Mighty Squirrels 1
Game Notes: As the Dark Rainbows look to defend their BTSH Championship, they will meet a familiar foe in the opening round. Although the Rainbows defeated the Squirrels in the 2007 playoffs, the Squirrels were the only team to score a playoff goal against standout goalie Trevor “White Jesus” Tyrrell. During the season, the Rainbows struggled with Tyrrell on the disabled list and star forward John Nielsen joining the Peace Corps for the summer, but both are now back, and the Rainbows are primed for another title run. One could say the Squirrels’ season has had several ups and downs, but that person would be wrong. The Squirrels began the season undefeated through their first ten games and then proceeded to lose their next seven in a row. Whether captain Rachel “A-Korn” Greene can right the ship for the playoffs remains to be seen.
Eli’s Pick: Dark Rainbows. Two of the best goalies in the league face off in what could be the lowest scoring game of the day.
Derek’s Pick: Dark Rainbows. The Squirrels have the heart to take this one, but the Rainbows’ Nielsen and P.T. Walkley will provide too much offense.
This Game Is Bringing Sexy Back
#7 Sky Fighters (11-6) vs. #10 Fresh Kills (8-8-0-1)
Location: Corlears South, 3:00 PM
All-Time Series: Tied 6-6
2008 Result: Week 1 – Sky Fighters 3, Fresh Kills 2 (OT-SO)
Game Notes: After an upset loss to the Tuques, the Sky Fighters have rattled off four consecutive victories, including defeats of the Dark Rainbows and Corlears Hookers. Although Sky Fighters star player Martin “Ocho Cinco” Cejka leads the team in goals with fourteen, and remains one of the top players in all of BTSH, it has been his supporting cast that has led the way in the past few games. Forward Robert Kucera notched a hat trick against against the Rainbows, while goalie James Stein has had two shutouts in the Sky Fighters’ last three games. Although Fresh Kills has been the very definition of inconsistently mediocre this season, they are fully capable of making a deep playoff run. With only the seventh seed last season, Fresh Kills advanced to the semi-finals of the playoffs, where they nearly defeated the eventual champion Dark Rainbows. As Fresh Kills prepares for this game, they have already put a bounty out on Ocho Cinco’s head…one which team goon Heidi “The Maple Leaf Muscle” Karst will certainly collect.
Eli’s Pick: Sky Fighters. Just for Abby, here’s a new photo of Chris “Big Sexy” Shumaker.
Derek’s Pick: Sky Fighters. They are getting hot at just the right time.
It’s $howT!m3!
#8 Rehabs (10-5-1-1) vs. #9 Unicorns (10-6-0-1)
Location: Moffo, 2:00 PM
All-Time Series: Rehabs lead 8-5-1
2008 Result: Week 3 – Rehabs 4, Unicorns 2
Game Notes: As is usually the case, Rehabs player Hector “$howT!m3” Melendez had a lot to say about facing his former team:
“The Unicorns have been some good ex-teammates of mine. This game to me is the BTSH championship, and I’m sure both teams will play it as such. The only difference between the 2002 Unicorns/Rehabs championship is when the Rehabs won, Alex ‘Villano VI’ Zabala and I were Unicorns. Now we get to beat the Unicorns six years later in our first playoff meeting since we transferred. This is personal for me. Outside, I love most of the Unicorns from my past, but on the court, they’re nothing more than people in my way to my first BTSH title!”
Melendez will have a loaded team behind him, as the Rehabs boast several of the league’s most renowned shooters. Led by snipers such as Sal Malguarnera, “Con” Ed Lau, Mike “Cupcake” Bartlett, Andy Levine (also a former Unicorn), Meredith Danberg-Ficarelli, and Tom O’Connor, the team has scored the third most goals in BTSH. The Unicorns, on the other hand, remain largely unknown…mostly from their own doing. However, with skill players Chris and Nelson playing up front, they can be equally as dangerous.
Eli’s Pick: Rehabs. The Unicorns’ recent playoff performances have been less than inspiring, as they have been sent packing by underdogs in the past two seasons.
Derek’s Pick: Rehabs. They have the advantage in offensive firepower, and Unicorns goalie Craig “Ug” LaCombe will only be able to restrain the attack for so long.

Guys, I normally bust your balls and demand your resignations. And this will be no different. I want you both to quit. However this is actually a compliment. This may have been your best update ever. With such great information as, “The Tuques are 8-0 when they outscore their opponents” and, “You can say the Squirrells have had their ups and downs, but you’d be wrong…” I just dont think you can improve on that. Very good.
BTW, a did you know. Did you know though the Tuques do have an impressive winning% in all of their victories, none of those victories came against the Elves!! And next season, we are changing our name from the Happy Little Elves, to We Beat the Tuques!
Wow. Now that is Big Sexy.
Except kinda not.
I love you, DerekandEli.
Anything for you, Abby!
