Butchers at Cobra Kai
Saturday, October 11th, 2014Before we dive into this game, let’s take a minute to see how Cobra Kai rookie Sebastian’s BTSH playoff bracket picks are doing. Riots over Poutine Machine…uh oh! Mega Touch over Gremlins…yikes! Gut Rot over Dark Rainbows…really?! Filthy Gorgeous over What The Puck…are you kidd–oh wait, he got that one right. Whew, we’re glad you didn’t go O-fer the opening weekend there Sebastian.
It should come as no surprise that Sebastian has the Dojo knocking off the Butchers this Sunday in his bracket. He does play for Cobra Kai, after all, so he should never pick against his own team. He is also a rookie, so of course he is ignoring years and years of postseason history for both squads. The Butchers have never lost in the Round of 16, going a perfect 4-0 since joining the league. This includes 2010, when they recovered to knock off the #2 seed Rehabs in an overtime thriller after giving up a late game-tying goal. And 2012, when Fresh Kills’ Patrick Barch filled in as a last minute emergency replacement in goal and led the Butchers to a 1-0 shutout of the Elves. And last year, when Creamy made Craig get all boo-boo face in the shootout, causing him to throw shit really, really high and really, really far.
Cobra Kai, on the other hand, has never won in the Round of 16. Some years, they didn’t even make it to the Round of 16. Not only are they in it this year, but they also have a feather in their proverbial cap in the form of a 5-4 head-to-head win from earlier in the year. However, the Butchers always find a way to get through this weekend, and we think they keep that streak going with a hard fought 3-2 win.
Week 7 Three Stars
Tuesday, June 10th, 2014Four hat tricks, some shutouts and lots of spirited play this week in BTSH. Hell even a couple of free agents made some big splashes. In other words…it was a glorious week.
I Love You Not….Previews Week 6
Monday, May 12th, 2014Love. It’s why we’re all here. From the time we are a baby, snuggled into our Daddy’s arms, to when we are leaving this earth, as our great grandchild clasps our hand one last time, we are looking for one thing.
Love.
But as we find out…true love doesn’t last forever, and often times, the ones we love are the ones we leave.

I don’t know these two people. I actually just used a Google image search.
But perhaps they would be happier if they didn’t have some creeper taking a picture of them while they were in bed?
Which brings us to…
Week 5 Preview: Part II
Friday, May 2nd, 2014GOTW: Butchers at Gremlins
It’s an all Kazin Conference week for the featured games, as our second Game of the Week features a couple of Glanzer Division squads. Last week, the Butchers downed the Dark Rainbows for a second consecutive win, while the Gremlins struggles continued with a shutout loss to Cobra Kai.
Keys for the Butchers:
They have moved on well from the off-season defections, and that opening week loss to Fresh Kills seems so long ago. Wins against Filthy Gorgeous and the Dark Rainbows have the Butchers spirits soaring, and their new players have been leading the way.
Keys for the Gremlins:
Even though they are 0-3, the Gremlins must be doing something right, because how else would they get a cushy Game of the Week spot? Marketing, that must be it. Sad Jamie and his other, less frequent, iterations have been all over this site since the season started, and why not, since the only time he has been kicked out of the crease is when someone shows up in a town car. Unfortunately, this “All Jamie, all the time” blitz has obscured the rest of the Gremlins. John Walker, Luke Berg, and a bunch of other people we don’t really know are getting buried right now. The key to ending this?

We want to write about other Gremmies besides Sad Jamie! But in the mean time we made Sarah T. and Jo-Ann very happy with another cat picture.
Even though he had to latch on to the rising tide of Fresh Kills, Jamie did get his first win of the season on Sunday. With that taste of victory still fresh in his mouth, maybe he can now spur the Gremlins on to a victory. Sad Jamie is slowly morphing into Happy Jamie, and the Gremlins prevail, 3-1.
Rich’s Pick: I’ve played a lot with Arnold lately. At the charity tournament that Rachel rigged so she would win my team purposely took him out and busted his nose. Arnold didn’t miss a shift. Respect. Respect. Butchers 3- Gremmies 2. Sad Jamie, remains sad.
Derek’s Pick: At the beginning of the season, I really thought Sad Jamie and the Gremlins would make a nice little run. It’s make or break time. This game is divisional, and an 0-4 record would put them into quite a chasm. They realize this and notch a 4-3 win. (P.S. Eli, you remind us of all those old-timey Mighty Squirrel players, but no Tim “(S)crappy” Gray mention? For shame!)
Week 2 (Or is it now 1?) Previews Part 1
Wednesday, April 2nd, 2014We said you gotta win to earn GOTW and that leaves us with very little options for this coming week, since Evil Commissioner Tim Brown canceled the games.
But after the first ever annual McCarren Park Cup, Rachel Greene said the Butchers added a really great Canadian girl and a special surprise that the media doesn’t know about.
So that’s good enough for us to give them GOTW, especially since they play league powerhouse Fresh Kills.
GOTW: Fresh Kills at Butchers
Keys for the Butchers:
The surprise.
That surprise better be Wayne Friggin Gretzky because Fresh Kills can handle a really good Canadian girl. The Butchers seem to be in better shape than we gave them credit for, but their free agents who we never heard of better be reallllly good if they are to win this game.
Keys for Fresh Kills:
For Tim not to fear rain? I’m a pretty big believer in putting 12 talented hockey players together and they will gel by game 1. But I’m more of a believer that a team that is better than the sum of their parts is best of all. Make no mistake, Fresh Kills has talent but they play better as a group than any team in BTSH does.
Prediction:
The Butchers actually almost beat Fresh Kills in the playoffs in 2012. They were up 2-0 fairly late and were up by a goal with around a minute left, but Soko scored to tie it and FK won in OT. But 2012 was a long time ago for the Butchers. I expect a spirited game but in the end, FK will win 5-2.
Eli’s Pick: Fresh Kills 4, Butchers 0
Derek’s Pick: Fresh Kills 6, Butchers 1
