GAME OF THE WEEK
Denim Demons (11-0-2-3) vs. Corlears Hookers (11-3-1-1)
Location: Tompkins West, 12:00 PM
All-Time Series: Corlears Hookers lead 2-1
Game Notes: The Rubens Division crown will be at stake when these two rivals meet again on Sunday. In their first meeting, the Hookers prevailed in a shootout, but only after the Demons tied the game late in regulation. Since then, the Fightin’ Rubens have continued to come through in the clutch with late, game-saving goals, and as a result, have still not lost a game in regulation. However, despite this tendency for late game heroics, they lost their last game to another division rival, the Happy Little Elves, in overtime. The Corlears Hookers have had an extra week to prepare for this crucial matchup, as their most recent game was postponed due to tournament commitments. However, in the previous weekend, they played twice, defeating Mexican Standoff and losing to the Sky Fighters. They now sit in third place in the BTSH standings, three points behind the Denim Demons and four points behind What The Puck. With only five regular season games remaining for each of these teams, this contest will go a long way in determining the top playoff seeds in BTSH, as well as the inaugural Rubens Division champion.
Keys To The Game:
1. Despite the importance of this late season battle, the Denim Demons will be without the services of starting goalie, Aaron “Coach” Pagdon. Both of their backups, Noah Farkas and Zack Tinkelman, are extremely capable, but Pagdon’s imposing presence will be missed.
2. Although she can never legally use it in a sanctioned BTSH game, Noelle Safar of the Corlears Hookers is notorious for having one of the hardest slapshots in the league.
3. Corlears Hookers forward Jason Eitel is currently second in BTSH with 21 goals, while Demons forward Jeff Kamen is seventh with 14. As the scoring race continues to heat up, it will be a treat to see what each superstar can do for his team.
Eli’s Pick: Corlears Hookers. Eitel is also gunning for that scoring title.
Derek’s Pick: Corlears Hookers. They will benefit from having Dustin “Fake Dutch’s Brother” Olson as their goalie for most of their remaining games.
Watchability: 5 Dutch’s Brothers

Editors’ Note: We have heard your suggestions loud and clear, so this week, we are proud to debut a new component to our weekly game previews. In addition to the game notes and our picks, we will also include a “watchability” rating to help you decide which games will be the most interesting. Games will be judged on a scale of 1 to 5, with 1 being “unwatchable” and 5 being “can’t miss.”
GAME OF THE WEEK
Denim Demons (8-0-2-2) vs. Rehabs (6-4-0-2)
Location: Tompkins West, 3:00 PM
All-Time Series: Rehabs lead 6-5-1
Game Notes: The media are not above embellishing the intensity of a rivalry to promote a storyline. However, it isn’t hyperbole to say that these teams legitimately do hate each other, and the rift between them continues to grow each time they play. In their 2008 matchup, the Demons outlasted the Rehabs 3-2 in a bitter week 12 struggle that took both teams to the limits. Down, but not out, the Rehabs struck the last blow that day by showering the Demons with a barrage of water balloons. Although the Demons were ready to seek revenge in week 5, forces beyond their control cancelled the game, making this week’s affair their only shot at the Rehabs in 2009. With all this pent up aggression and frustration ready to be released, someone may leave this game in a body bag.
Keys To The Game:
1. The Rehabs have allowed just 23 goals this season, tying them for second in BTSH. Despite their struggles over the last few weeks, the defense has remained one of the top shot blocking units in the league.
2. To counter the returns of Jon “Dinner Plate” Feldman and Stacy Kehoe to the Rehabs, Denim Demons captain Adam “Legend Killer” Rubens is reportedly bringing back one of the Demons’ greatest forwards from the past, “Hacksaw” Jim Dandeneau.
3. In a possible sign of a thaw in relations between these two teams, Mike Pereira of the Demons and Rob Blandi of the Rehabs were spotted having lunch together at an undisclosed (though supposedly trendy) upscale Manhattan eatery. The bill was split 50-50.
Eli’s Pick: Rehabs. They’ve lost each of their last five games by one goal and are due for a huge win.
Derek’s Pick: Denim Demons. They have promised to bring Rubens Rock to this game, so you know they’ll be giving 110%.
Watchability: 5 Hacketts

Wednesday, July 22nd, 2009The following views do not necessarily represent those of the editors or of BTSH. They do, however, represent those of Abby Meisterman.
When I’m not juggling metadata or watching the same shitty movies Derek & Eli both adore (Empire Records? Summer School? [Remind me to tell you about me and Dean Cameron one of these days.]) or having an impromptu dance party at East Village Tavern or kicking your ass on the hockey court or drinking gin while wearing freakishly awesome shoes (I do also wear some nifty dresses), I’m sharing a namesake talent.
No, I did not marry the second president of the United States and give birth to a true American family (even if I gave birth to them while living in Hawaii but brought them up in Africa… still born in America!). Nor did I stir up trouble with the Puritans (least complex, my ass). No, no… I’m talking about Abigail Van Buren (Shut yer mouth! I’m just talkin’ ’bout Abby. Awwwwwww yeah). So in the spirit of giving, I am extending my talent and assistance to some lucky BTSHers.
