GAME OF THE WEEK
Sky Fighters (7-4) vs. Denim Demons (7-0-2-2)
Location: Tompkins East, 3:00 PM
All-Time Series: Denim Demons lead 4-2
Game Notes: Although this is one of the few inter-divisional matchups on the docket this week, through an odd scheduling quirk, this will be the Sky Fighters’ fourth consecutive Rubens Division opponent and the Demons’ third consecutive Schloeder Division opponent. The Sky Fighters have looked like a more complete team this season, as several players have contributed to their success. In the past, their scoring attack has revolved solely around Martin “Ocho Cinco” Cejka, but in recent weeks, the team has found other ways to win. Newcomer Greg Cohan led the team with two goals in their week 12 victory over Fresh Kills, and goalie Robert Kucera recorded a shutout against the Rehabs in week 11. With the Denim Demons’ win in week 12 against the Mighty Squirrels, they continue to remain the only team in BTSH without a regulation loss. The team has clearly relied on its defense and goaltending this season, as the Demons now rank first in the league in goals against (16) and shutouts (4). However, with five goals in the Demons’ last two games, forward Jeff Kamen has established himself as the hottest scorer in BTSH. The Sky Fighters will have their hands full as they try to stop him and the Fightin’ Rubens.
Keys To The Game:
1. There may be a goalie controversy brewing in Sky Fighters camp, as both James Stein and Robert Kucera have performed well this season. Although Stein is listed as the official starter, Kucera has both of the team’s shutouts this season.
2. All eyes will be on Demons forward Micael Holmström and Sky Fighters defender Martin “Ocho Cinco” Cejka. They are two of the most skilled players in BTSH and both have the ability to take over a game.
3. Captain Adam “Legend Killer” Rubens has promised to take the entire team out to dinner at Ruby Tuesday should the Demons win. Ana Hurka-Robles is especially excited, as she has always been a fan of their Thai Phoon Shrimp appetizer.
Eli’s Pick: Sky Fighters. Martin’s due for a big game.
Derek’s Pick: Denim Demons. According to Ruby Tuesday’s website, Thai Phoon Shrimp is “the perfect storm of texture and flavors.” Just like the Demons.
Week 10 News and Notes
Tuesday, June 16th, 2009Abby Gives Herself Two Thumbs Up
Mighty Squirrels FTW!
Congratulations to Abby Meisterman of the Denim Demons for winning the inaugural BTSH Media Survivor Pool. Over the course of 10 grueling weeks, she managed to outlast 18 of BTSH’s most cunning and crafty individuals (and Meredith “Danberg” Ficarelli). Here is Abby’s formula for success:
Week 1: Sky Fighters defeat Mega Touch, 7-2
Week 2: Filthy Gorgeous defeats Mega Touch, 5-0
Week 3: Fresh Kills defeats Tuques, 5-1
Week 4: Denim Demons defeat Mexican Standoff, 4-3
Week 5: All games cancelled due to “rain fears”.
Week 6: Rehabs defeat Mega Touch, 2-1
Week 7: Unicorns defeat Mega Touch, 2-1
Week 8: Dark Rainbows defeat Mighty Squirrels, 2-1
Week 9: LBS, Inc. defeats Mexican Standoff, 5-2
Week 10: Mighty Squirrels defeat Mega Touch, 4-0
Ironically, the closest Abby came to being eliminated was in week 4, when she picked her own team. That week, the Demons rallied from a two-goal deficit with 10 minutes remaining in regulation, allowing Abby to remain in the pool. Also of note is the fact that she won the pool without ever picking What The Puck or the Corlears Hookers, which are normally two of the safest bets. As the winner of this competition, Abby is entitled to write a post for btsh.org on any topic she chooses. It is tentatively scheduled to be posted on Wednesday, June 24.

Thursday, April 2nd, 2009Jason Eitel Is Gunning For The Demons
GAME OF THE WEEK
Corlears Hookers (1-0) vs. Denim Demons (1-0)
Location: Tompkins West, 2:00 PM
All-Time Series: Tied 1-1
Game Notes: Although both of these bitter Rubens Division rivals were victorious last week, they each earned their win in very different fashions. The Corlears Hookers coasted to a five goal victory against the Tuques Army, despite having only one substitute. Jason Eitel led the way with a hat trick, while the defense stymied the Tuques, holding them to only one goal. The Denim Demons had to scratch and claw their way past a spunky Happy Little Elves team, despite being heavy favorites. Although they won the game in the end, the Demons actually trailed twice before scoring the game winning goal late in the second half. When the Demons and Hookers last met, the Fightin’ Rubens eked out a one goal victory in an extremely competitive and vicious game. The Hookers will look to avenge this loss on Sunday, giving them bragging rights until the next meeting on September 13.
Keys To The Game:
1. Hookers captain Peter “Purple Rain” Putka has been busy on the phone all week ensuring he will have more than one sub for Sunday’s game. However, reports indicate that Putka has “misplaced” the contact information for Albert “Al” Huang.
2. Although the Denim Demons struggled against the Elves last week, they were also missing top talent Micael Holmström. His expected return this week should strengthen an already stingy defense.
3. Demons player Zack Tinkelman has made it extremely clear that he’s planning to cheap shot any Hooker who scores a goal. Why else would he reference this in an earlier comment?
Eli’s Pick: Denim Demons. Adam “Legend Killer” Rubens must have a few tricks up his sleeve.
Derek’s Pick: Corlears Hookers. If they all show up, there is just too much raw talent to overcome.
