Tuesday, May 12th, 2009Now Fresh Kills Can Look Like A Team
Hot Styles Coming Through
In an effort to draw closure on the “Hollywood” Jeff Lesser era, Fresh Kills tossed aside its trademark powder blue tank tops for a new look. Gone is the old design of a fish skeleton and tin can, replaced by two ornithological creatures that appear to be seagulls (or crows or vultures or whatever else might fly over a landfill). The uniforms once again feature numbers on the back. However, since each number represents the respective player’s year of birth, there are no numbers higher than 63.
Not to be outdone, the Mighty Squirrels also debuted a new jersey (New Jersey!) on Sunday. Although the new shirt bears the same crest logo as the old shirt, it is made of a more breathable fabric, enabling the Squirrels to burn off all of their excess alcohol in a more comfortable fashion. In addition, with league members no longer going to Iggy’s, captain Rachel “A-Korn” Greene has already secured sponsorship from new league bar, the East Village Tavern, whose logo adorns the sleeve. The Squirrels are also expected to unveil their “Team (S)crappy” jerseys any day now.

Tuesday, April 28th, 2009The Elves’ Fan Base Is Growing
Elves Win! Elves Win! (Seriously)
After several weeks of near misses, the Happy Little Elves finally notched their first regular season win since April 13, 2008, a drought that stretched for 378 days. An early goal by forward Chris O’Neill set the tone immediately, as the Elves cruised to a 3-0 victory over the Unicorns. Goalie Ronald Bettenhauser turned aside every shot he faced, earning the first shutout in Elves history.
With this victory, the Elves continue their relative mastery against teams that have yellow as a uniform color base. They are now 2-1 overall against the Tuques and Unicorns, but 0-17-1-1 against all other teams. As captain Ben Chadwick looks to continue this run of success, he has begun to analyze what went right against the Unicorns. Ironically, he was shocked to discover that the absence of Ben Chadwick might have been the primary cause of their stellar play. As Chadwick is known for keeping a trim roster, it is unclear whether he will leave Chadwick in the lineup for this Sunday’s game.
Despite this win, the Elves did not gain possession of the prestigious (yet imaginary) Fairy Tale Cup in 2009.

Happy Birthday $howT!m3!
Despite a flurry of activity this past weekend, the most monumental event was easily league side show Hector “$howT!m3” Melendez’s 26th birthday. Although many festivities were brainstormed for the occasion, only a handful came to fruition. $howT!m3 planned on making a grand entrance via car (or cat, we’re not sure) on to the Tompkins courts, but was unable to procure said means of conveyance (even the cat!). Thus, he was reduced to walking through the gates like a commoner. Even with this setback, the Rehabs’ victory was the sweetest present of all.
To continue celebrating his birthday and the Rehabs’ win, $howT!m3 planned on holding a 20 person Irish Car Bomb drinking session. Although he was only able to convince four other people to join him in this endeavor, it didn’t make his birthday any less special. Love for $howT!m3 was definitely in the air.

Tuesday, April 7th, 2009Prepare For A White Out
The Alpha Male Isn’t Going To Like This One…
Yet another new team uniform was unveiled last Sunday, as Mexican Standoff debuted a hot new look for 2009. In the team’s continuing quest to go incognito this season, Peaches and his crew have toned down the team’s shirt to a very plain white, with a small, modest logo. In addition, the jerseys no longer have player nicknames on the back, as Standoff has gone the New England Patriots route by choosing to highlight the team over individuality. When reached for comment, LBS, Inc. loud mouth “The Alpha Male” Ken Poulin was once again not happy with another team adopting white as its primary color.

Mega Touch With Mega New Look!
As part of its massive rebranding efforts, Mega Touch unveiled its new uniforms to limited fanfare. Although the event is notable for being the first time Alex “Coop” Eben Meyer has been seen in a clean shirt, the uniforms were eerily reminiscent of the now defunct Bad Touch’s shirts from last season. Captain Eric Devlin reluctantly admitted the similarities, noting, “We couldn’t really change our team colors, so this is what we had to get.”
