Week 15 Preview
Karsten’s A Slick One
GAME OF THE WEEK
Dark Rainbows (10-2-0-1) vs. LBS, Inc. (10-3)
Location: Tompkins East, 5:30 PM
All-Time Series: LBS, Inc. leads 6-5-1
Game Notes: This battle of Schloeder Division rivals features two of the league’s three 10-win teams. The Dark Rainbows enter this game in second place in the standings, on the strength of an eleven game stretch without a regulation loss. However, in a minor upset, the Rainbows were stymied by another division foe, the Sky Fighters, last week, in what captain Sean Reynolds deemed one of his “most embarrassing sports moments ever.” LBS, Inc. has little to be embarrassed about as the team has won seven consecutive games and now sits in a three-way tie for third place. The corporation has scored the second most goals in BTSH with 55, with the offesnive tandem of Karsten Pichon and “The Alpha Male” Ken Poulin accounting for 31 of them. The Dark Rainbows, who defeated LBS, Inc. 4-2 in Week 3, will have to clamp down on this explosive scoring attack if they want to sweep the season series.
Keys To The Game:
1. Although LBS, Inc.’s duo of Pichon and Poulin generate more accolades, the Dark Rainbows pair of John Nielsen and P.T. Walkley should not be overlooked. The two have combined for 24 goals on the season.
2. LBS, Inc. has the second best goal differential in the league. Although this is mainly bolstered by their high-octane offense, Seth Wachtell’s zen-like approach to goaltending has been a major factor as well.
3. After reading in the Week 14 News and Notes that LBS, Inc. stuffs a $100 bill into the mouth of every goalie the team beats, Rainbows keeper John Meyer has considered throwing this contest…as times have been real tough.
Eli’s Pick: No Pick. Eli will be reffing this game.
Derek’s Pick: LBS, Inc. Although the Rainbows will be looking to avenge last week’s tough loss, LBS is like Hansel and thus, so hot right now.
Watchability: 5 Pichons
Fresh Kills (5-7-0-1) vs. Denim Demons (9-0-2-2)
Location: Tompkins East, 2:00 PM
All-Time Series: Fresh Kills leads 5-4
Game Notes: The Denim Demons averted their first regulation loss of the season last week, as they rallied to beat their arch rival, the Rehabs, in what many are considering the Game of the Season. The win, which required a two-goal comeback in the final two minutes of regulation, propelled the surging Demons into sole possession of first place. Fresh Kills, on the other hand, has suffered back-to-back shutouts at the hands of the Unicorns and Happy Little Elves.
Eli’s Pick: Denim Demons
Derek’s Pick: Denim Demons. These teams are headed in opposite directions right now.
Watchability: 3 Pichons
Gouging Anklebiters (5-7-1) vs. Unicorns (8-5)
Location: Tompkins West, 2:00 PM
All-Time Series: Unicorns lead 6-3-1
Game Notes: The Unicorns continue to be the mystery of BTSH, as it is impossible to tell which team will show up on any given day. Will it be the Unicorns who blanked the defending champion Fresh Kills two weeks ago, or will it be the Unicorns who were shutout by the Mighty Squirrels last week? Meanwhile, the Anklebiters pitched a shutout of their own last week against Cobra Kai.
Eli’s Pick: Unicorns
Derek’s Pick: Unicorns
Watchability: 3 Pichons. It’s unclear if this should be this high, but let’s consider it a ceiling.
Filthy Gorgeous (9-3-1) vs. Rehabs (6-4-0-3)
Location: Tompkins East, 3:00 PM
All-Time Series: Rehabs lead 3-1
Game Notes: The spotlight will be on Filthy Gorgeous’ Suvin “The Guru” Malik throughout this game, as he has now scored eight goals in his last three games, four of which came last week against What The Puck. Malik’s line mate, “Gentleman” James Pereira currently leads Filthy with 14 goals, making the pair one of BTSH’s toughest duos to defend.
Eli’s Pick: Filthy Gorgeous. Their domination of What The Puck shows they can play with anyone.
Derek’s Pick: Filthy Gorgeous
Watchability: 4.5 Pichons
Mighty Squirrels (5-7-1) vs. Cobra Kai (2-9-1-1)
Location: Tompkins West, 3:00 PM
All-Time Series: Mighty Squirrels lead 4-0
Game Notes: Although this once fierce rivalry has faded over the past few seasons, there is still an underlying animosity between these two teams. The embers were stoked again last week when the Squirrels’ Patrick Larsen and the Dojo’s Will Kuhns locked horns over which band is the best of all time. While Larsen argued in favor of the Electric Light Orchestra, Kuhns took up the mantle for 2 Live Crew.
Eli’s Pick: Mighty Squirrels. Sorry, Will, ELO is better.
Derek’s Pick: Mighty Squirrels. I’m partial to Steely Dan myself.
Watchability: 2 Pichons
Mexican Standoff (1-11-0-1) vs. Happy Little Elves (6-6-1)
Location: Tompkins East, 4:00 PM
All-Time Series: Mexican Standoff leads 2-0
Game Notes: It took Mexican Standoff 13 games to notch its first win of the 2009 season, and the team let out some pent up frustration. Ben and Gary each recorded a hat trick in Standoff’s convincing 7-2 victory against the Tuques. The Happy Little Elves shutout Fresh Kills (with an assist from Rehab $howT!m3), sweeping the season series from the defending champs and getting to the .500 mark for the third time this season. The Elves’ two previous attempts to cross the .500 barrier had resulted in losses to Mega Touch and LBS, Inc.
Eli’s Pick: Happy Little Elves. The third time is the charm.
Derek’s Pick: Happy Little Elves. Yes, we’re both picking the Elves.
Watchability: 2 Pichons
Corlears Hookers (9-2-1-1) vs. Sky Fighters (8-5)
Location: Tompkins West, 4:00 PM
All-Time Series: Tied 1-1
Game Notes: The Sky Fighters are flying high (ha! get it?) after pasting their Schloeder Division rivals, the Dark Rainbows, last week. The win stands as their biggest achievement of the season, as the Rainbows had looked nearly unstoppable in the preceding weeks. The Sky Fighters will face another elite team this Sunday in the Corlears Hookers, who have quietly crawled within two points of first place.
Eli’s Pick: Corlears Hookers. This game is late enough to allow the Hookers time to recover from Jason Eitel’s birthday on Saturday.
Derek’s Pick: Sky Fighters. Their win against the Rainbows has convinced me that they are real contenders.
Watchability: 3.5 Pichons
Mega Touch (3-9-1) vs. What The Puck (10-3)
Location: Tompkins West, 5:30 PM
All-Time Series: What The Puck leads 10-2
Game Notes: With What The Puck losing three of their last four games, Mega Touch is catching them at the best possible time to pull an upset. Larry’s Orange Juggernaut has had to deal with the dual setback of injuries to several of its key players and attendance issues from the healthy ones.
Eli’s Pick: What The Puck
Derek’s Pick: What The Puck
Watchability: 1.5 Pichons. Mega Touch captain Eric Devlin is still trying to find out who was actually “clamoring” for this index.
HOCKEY NIGHT IN TOMPKINS
Mathematics (3-6-1-3) vs. Tuques (3-10)
Location: Tompkins East, 6:30 PM
All-Time Series: Mathematics lead 3-1
Game Notes: An underrated Woodsworth Division rivalry takes center stage during this week’s installment of Hockey Night in Tompkins. In the season’s first meeting between these two teams, the Mathematics rallied from a two-goal deficit with three goals in the final ten minutes of regulation. To celebrate their first appearance in the Hockey Night slot, the Mathematics will unveil a special alternate jersey.
Watchability: 2.5 Pichons

Media Boycott back on. But before the shunning of the media a little known fact, no one that has ever picked the Elves in the eliminator pool has survived. Just sayin. No gimmie.
Shunned.
Unshunned:
Looks like the whole league is joining my boycott!!
Re-Shunned!!
