Week 20 Preview

It’s Good To Be The Alpha Male

Alpha Male

GAME OF THE WEEK
Dark Rainbows (12-4-0-1) vs. LBS, Inc. (11-4-0-1)
Location: Tompkins West, 4:30 PM
All-Time Series: LBS, Inc. leads 6-5-1
Game Notes: This makeup of a “rain fears” game features the top two teams in the Schloeder Division, the Dark Rainbows and LBS, Inc.  After a tough three game stretch, the Dark Rainbows have rebounded with consecutive wins against the Gouging Anklebiters and Tuques.  Captain Sean Reynolds has led the team by example, as he has recorded three goals during these two wins.  LBS, Inc. enters the game headed in the opposite direction, as the Corporation has lost its last two games following an eight-game winning streak.  To add insult to inury, both of these losses came at the hands of teams with losing records at the time of the game.  With only three weeks left in the regular season, the outcome of this game could determine the Schloeder Division champion.
Keys To The Game:
1. Despite sitting in fifth place, the Dark Rainbows only have a goal differential of +3.  They have shown heart by winning a lot of close games, but when they lose, it’s usually not pretty.  Goaltender John Meyer will need to keep the game close for his team to win.
2. LBS, Inc. forward Karsten Pichon leads the league with 24 goals.  He enters this game riding a six-game scoring streak.
3. With the Rainbows and LBS, Inc. each playing a tough game earlier in the afternoon, stamina and depth will be crucial in this matchup.
Eli’s Pick: Dark Rainbows.  They seem to be back on track.
Derek’s Pick: No pick.  Derek will be reffing this game.
Watchability: 4.5 Meyers

Mega Touch (4-13-1) vs. Mathematics (3-11-1-3)
Location: Tompkins East, 12:00 PM
All-Time Series: Mathematics lead 4-1-1
Game Notes: These Woodsworth Division rivals played to a tie in their first meeting of the season, with the Mathematics scoring the equalizer with 10 seconds remaining in regulation.
Watchability: 2 Meyers.  With the game scheduled at noon, no one will be there to watch anyway.

Sky Fighters (11-7) vs. Filthy Gorgeous (13-4-1)
Location: Tompkins West, 12:00 PM
All-Time Series: Filthy Gorgeous leads 2-0
Game Notes: Filthy Gorgeous won two games last weekend, shutting out the Mighty Squirrels 6-0 and defeating the Rehabs 5-2.  The two wins vaulted the team into a tie for second place in the overall standings.
Eli’s Pick: Filthy Gorgeous
Derek’s Pick: Filthy Gorgeous.  Since the Sky Fighters are designated as the home team, will we finally see the electric lime jerseys?
Watchability: 3.5 Meyers

Corlears Hookers (12-3-1-1) vs. Happy Little Elves (8-9-1)
Location: Tompkins East, 1:00 PM
All-Time Series: Corlears Hookers lead 2-0
Game Notes: The Happy Little Elves enter this game having knocked off the Denim Demons and Sky Fighters in successive weeks.  However, this week will be another tough contest, as their opponent, the Corlears Hookers, handed the Denim Demons their first regulation loss of the season last week.
Eli’s Pick: Corlears Hookers.  They’ll hand the Elves their tenth regulation loss of the season.
Derek’s Pick: Corlears Hookers
Watchability: 3 Meyers

Tuques (6-11-0-1) vs. Gouging Anklebiters (7-10-1)
Location: Tompkins West, 1:00 PM
All-Time Series: Gouging Anklebiters lead 10-3
Game Notes: Gouging Anklebiter Sarah Moore will seek revenge against her old team, the Tuques, in this contest.  However, she harbors no ill-will towards former teammate Bill Monahan, who is a sweetie.
Eli’s Pick: Gouging Anklebiters.  All of the Anklebiters are sweeties.
Derek’s Pick: Tuques.  I’m sure she’d find that newcomer Shafiq Perry is a sweetie too, if she got to know him.
Watchability: 4 Meyers.  Yes, the revenge factor is that strong.

Dark Rainbows (12-4-0-1) vs. Rehabs (10-5-0-3)
Location: Tompkins East, 2:00 PM
All-Time Series: Dark Rainbows lead 5-3
Game Notes: With $howT!m3 now “retired”, the Rehabs will have to look elsewhere for inspiration during their games and general buffoonery on btsh.org.  Thus far, the leading candidate is Rob Blandi.
Eli’s Pick: Rehabs.  Blandi is also favored to crash through the fence and land on 10th Street.
Derek’s Pick: Dark Rainbows.  The Rainbows offense will prove too tough to handle.
Watchability: 1 Meyer. John.

LBS, Inc. (11-4-0-1) vs. Unicorns (10-8)
Location: Tompkins West, 2:00 PM
All-Time Series: LBS, Inc. leads 8-6
Game Notes: These two teams last met in the 2008 playoff quarterfinals, when LBS, Inc. defeated the Unicorns in a shootout.
Eli’s Pick: LBS, Inc.
Derek’s Pick: LBS, Inc.
Watchability: 3.5 Meyers

Mighty Squirrels (6-11-1) vs. Fresh Kills (8-8-0-1)
Location: Tompkins East, 3:30 PM
All-Time Series: Fresh Kills leads 4-1
Game Notes: Fresh Kills may have finally returned to their championship form, as the team has now won its last three games.  Several players on the team cite the week 18 airing of the legendary “Hollywood” Jeff Lesser’s documentary as their source for motivation.
Eli’s Pick: Fresh Kills
Derek’s Pick: Fresh Kills.  The team seems to have really clicked in the last few weeks and are looking for another strong finish to the season.
Watchability: 3 Meyers

Cobra Kai (4-11-1-2) vs. Mexican Standoff (3-14-0-1)
Location: Tompkins West, 3:30 PM
All-Time Series: Mexican Standoff leads 3-2
Game Notes: After a slew of tough losses, the Dojo finally had a game break in its favor last week, as the team stunned LBS, Inc. in a shootout.  Will Kuhns led the way for Cobra Kai, as he scored the game-tying goal and the only goal of the shootout.
Eli’s Pick: Mexican Standoff.  They played respectably against What The Puck last week.
Derek’s Pick: Cobra Kai.  They finally have some momentum.
Watchability: 2 Meyers

Denim Demons (11-1-2-3) vs. What The Puck (15-3)
Location: Tompkins East, 4:30 PM
All-Time Series: What The Puck leads 10-2
Game Notes: This matchup pits What The Puck’s top-ranked offense against the Denim Demon’s top-ranked defense.  In addition, the Demons trail first place What the Puck by three points in the standings.  As a result, this game will be crucial if the Fightin’ Rubens intend to claim the Prince of Weyersberg Trophy for the team with the best regular season record.
Eli’s Pick: What The Puck.  Larry really wants that trophy.
Derek’s Pick: What The Puck
Watchability: 4 Meyers

Media Records:
Eli: 79-45
Derek: 80-45

  1. HockeyRich says:

You guys have been hyping up Rob Blandi. I wonder who brought him into the league?? I’ll give you a hint, you’d consider it a reason to hate him. Eli, you realize with your predictions, you are predicting me to win the Survivor Trophy. Are you ok with this? I mean I already am in possession of the Barnicle Bowl, and I was screwed out of the prestigious (yet imaginary, though Ben claims to have it) Fairy Tail Cup. This would make a pretty successful season for Hockey Rich!!

  2. eli says:

If you are the one who brought Rob into the league, then how come he is on the Rehabs, and not the Elves?

  3. HockeyRich says:

We kicked off half our team and didn’t have room for anyone else since we already added O’Neil and Chris A. But we made sure he went to a team that we liked.

  4. showtime says:

and if you ain’t down with that….I GOT 2 WORDS FOR YA!

    LETS GO REHABS!

  5. lurk02 says:

that’s actually 3 words. 4 if you count the ‘s as the word “us” instead of just a contraction. either way, you’re off by 50-100%.

  6. showtime says:

LETS GO REHABS weren’t part of that. sorry for the mix up.
