Week 22 Preview
We Just Used Up Our One Good Unicorns Photo
GAME OF THE WEEK
Unicorns (10-9) vs. Sky Fighters (13-7)
Location: Tompkins West, 3:30 PM
All-Time Series: Unicorns lead 5-3-1
Game Notes: The Sky Fighters enter their matchup with the Unicorns playing some of their best hockey of the season. They have won five of their last six games, including victories over the Corlears Hookers and Filthy Goregous. It comes as no suprise that Martin “Ocho Cinco” Cejka has led the team with six goals during this span, bringing his total to 20 for the season. Unlike the Sky Fighters, the Unicorns enter this game on a bit of a skid. They have lost their last two contests to LBS, Inc. and Mega Touch, scoring just one goal in each game. In fact, their offense has scored only 37 goals on the season, ranking it 17th in BTSH. However, their defense and goaltending have been solid enough throughout the year to keep nearly all of the team’s games close. The Unicorns have already taken down What The Puck and the Corlears Hookers, and they will look to add the Sky Fighters to this list of impressive victims.
Keys To The Game:
1. The Sky Fighters are currently ranked seventh, but a win could move them as high as fifth. However, a loss could drop them to eighth.
2. The Unicorns are currently ranked ninth and cannot improve their seeding, even with wins in this game and their earlier matchup against the Denim Demons. However, they can fall as low as the 11th seed.
3. The Unicorns’ Susannah currently has three goals on the season, which is two more than Rich Glanzer of the Happy Little Elves. Unless something dramatic happens, it appears she will win the right to call herself the “bigger fairy”, as per the terms of an extremely stupid mid-season bet between the two.
Eli’s Pick: Sky Fighters. Ironically, a win here could result in them playing the Unicorns again in the opening round of the playoffs.
Derek’s Pick: Sky Fighters. Even with this win, the Sky Fighters would fall a little short of captain Dan Hopper’s pre-season prediction for a record of 21 wins and -4 losses.

Denim Demons (12-1-2-3) vs. Unicorns (10-9)
Location: Tompkins East, 11:00 AM
All-Time Series: Unicorns lead 5-4-2
Game Notes: This is a makeup game from September 27.
Eli’s Pick: Denim Demons
Derek’s Pick: Denim Demons
Watchability: 3.5 Cejkas
Mighty Squirrels (6-12-1) vs. Dark Rainbows (13-6-0-1)
Location: Tompkins East, 12:00 PM
All-Time Series: Dark Rainbows lead 7-0
Game Notes: After losing two straight games, the Dark Rainbows proved they are ready for the playoffs with a 10-0 pasting of Mega Touch last week. The Dark Rainbows currently sit in sixth place in the BTSH standings but could move as high as third with a win.
Eli’s Pick: Dark Rainbows. In addition to playing for seeding, they also have an outside shot at claiming the Schloeder Division title.
Derek’s Pick: Dark Rainbows
Watchability: 2.5 Cejkas
Fresh Kills (9-8-0-1) vs. Corlears Hookers (13-3-1-2)
Location: Tompkins West, 12:00 PM
All-Time Series: Tied 2-2
Game Notes: This rematch of the 2008 championship promises to be even more intense than the week 8 battle, in which Fresh Kills defeated the Hookers 2-1. Fresh Kills has won four games in a row, while the Corlears Hookers will be looking to rebound from last week’s shootout loss to Cobra Kai.
Eli’s Pick: No pick. Eli will be reffing this game.
Derek’s Pick: Corlears Hookers. They rarely lose two in a row.
Watchability: 4 Cejkas
Mathematics (3-12-1-3) vs. What The Puck (15-4)
Location: Tompkins East, 1:00 PM
All-Time Series: What The Puck leads 4-1
Game Notes: What The Puck enters the final weekend of the regular season sitting in first place with a one point lead over three other teams. A win in this game clinches the Woodsworth Division title and could also deliver Larry’s Orange Juggernaut the Prince of Weyersberg trophy for best regular season record.
Watchability: 1.5 Cejkas. What The Puck’s Ant “Father Time” Ventolieri lowers the average attractiveness level of this entire game.
Filthy Gorgeous (13-5-1) vs. Mega Touch (5-14-1)
Location: Tompkins West, 1:00 PM
All-Time Series: Filthy Gorgeous leads 4-1
Game Notes: While Filthy Gorgeous still has a small chance of winning the Woodsworth Division, the team will be much more interested in securing a good playoff seed. Filthy currently sits in fifth place, only three points out of first, but are also just two points up on the eighth place team.
Eli’s Pick: Filthy Gorgeous
Derek’s Pick: Filthy Gorgeous. Mega Touch did not look impressive last week. /understatement
Watchability: Low
Cobra Kai (5-12-1-2) vs. Tuques (6-12-0-1)
Location: Tompkins East, 2:00 PM
All-Time Series: Cobra Kai leads 2-1
Game Notes: Although Cobra Kai and the Tuques enter this game with the same number of points in standings, a different storyline will take center stage. Cobra Kai co-captain Greg “Lysol” Altman and Tuques co-captain Minkus have agreed on a gentleman’s wager where the loser of this contest will have to film a brief commericial (to be posted on btsh.org) extolling the virtues of the victor.
Eli’s Pick: Tuques. Should this happen to go the other way, we’ll still be able to use the “Tuques hockey” audio clip.
Derek’s Pick: Cobra Kai. This better not end in a tie.
Watchability: 3.5 Cejkas
Happy Little Elves (8-10-1) vs. Rehabs (11-5-0-3)
Location: Tompkins West, 2:00 PM
All-Time Series: Tied 1-1
Game Notes: After finishing with a dismal 1-14-1-1 record in the 2008 regular season, the Happy Little Elves can only view this season as a complete success. They have already clinched, at worst, the fourteenth seed in the playoffs, meaning they will avoid the dreaded play-in game. The Rehabs will look to even the score with the Elves, who upset them earlier in the season.
Eli’s Pick: Rehabs
Derek’s Pick: Rehabs. Unlike the first game, the Rehabs will have superstar Adam Skuse for this game.
Watchability: 3.5 Cejkas
Denim Demons (12-1-2-3) vs. LBS, Inc. (14-4-0-1)
Location: Tompkins East, 3:30 PM
All-Time Series: LBS, Inc. leads 8-1-1
Game Notes: The Denim Demons and LBS, Inc. are currently tied for second place, and a win by either could mean first. In addition, both teams are competing for their respective division titles. LBS, Inc. can clinch the Schloeder Division with a win, tie, or shootout loss, while the Demons enter the weekend tied for the Rubens Division lead with the Corlears Hookers.
Eli’s Pick: LBS, Inc. They’ve dominated the series history.
Derek’s Pick: Denim Demons. The Legend Killer really wants to win that Rubens Division crown.
Watchability: 4.5 Cejkas
Happy Little Elves (8-10-1) vs. What The Puck (15-4)
Location: Moffo, 4:00 PM
All-Time Series: What The Puck leads 1-0
Game Notes: This is a makeup game from September 27. It is also the only regular season game that will take place at Moffo.
Eli’s Pick: What The Puck
Derek’s Pick: What The Puck
Watchability: 0 Cejkas. No one’s going to go to Moffo to watch this.
Gouging Anklebiters (8-11-1) vs. Mexican Standoff (4-15-0-1)
Location: Tompkins East, 4:30 PM
All-Time Series: Gouging Anklebiters lead 9-4
Game Notes: The Gouging Anklebiters have lost four of their last five games, but one bright spot during this stretch has been the play of rookie Alex Derhohannesian. He has scored six goals in this span, tying him for the team lead with noted trash-talker Charles DeFranco.
Eli’s Pick: Gouging Anklebiters
Derek’s Pick: Gouging Anklebiters. However, it will still be a while before Alex D. passes league degenerate Alex Owen in repulsiveness.
Watchability: 2.5 Cejkas
Fresh Kills (9-8-0-1) vs. Denim Demons (12-1-2-3)
Location: Tompkins West, 4:30 PM
All-Time Series: Fresh Kills leads 5-4
Game Notes: This is a makeup game from September 27, which itself was a makeup game from August 2. This will be the Demons’ third game of the day.
Eli’s Pick: Denim Demons. They could enter this game in control of their own destiny for first place.
Derek’s Pick: Fresh Kills. I’m banking on the Demons being too tired to compete by this game.
Watchability: 4 Cejkas
Tuques (6-12-0-1) vs. Filthy Gorgeous (13-5-1)
Location: Tompkins Square Park, 5:30 PM
All-Time Series: Filthy Gorgeous leads 5-1
Game Notes: This is a makeup game from September 27.
Eli’s Pick: Filthy Gorgeous
Derek’s Pick: Filthy Gorgeous
Watchability: 2.5 Cejkas. This will be the last regular season game of 2009.
