Week 3 Preview
“Oh, puh-lease!” (With Drunken German Accent)
GAME OF THE WEEK
Mathematics (2-0) vs. Mighty Squirrels (1-0-1)
Location: Moffo, 5:00 PM
All-Time Series: Mathematics lead 4-0
Game Notes: This matchup has rapidly developed into one of the most intense rivalries in all of BTSH. Captains Rachel “A-Korn” Greene and Derek Tagliarino have made no secret of their mutual hatred of one another, as their small New Jersey-New York feud has escalated exponentially. However, Greene and Tagliarino were able to put aside their differences just long enough to wager a case of beer on the outcome of this game. The annual Squirrels-Mathematics prank war has also commenced. The Mathematics struck first by stealing Rocky, the Mighty Squirrels’ mascot. The Squirrels then retaliated by kidnapping the Mathematics’ mascot, Screech. This game promises to be a blood bath and will not be for the faint of heart.
Keys to the Game:
1. Despite generating several scoring chances last week for the Mathematics, Andy Pratt was held without a goal. He’ll be looking to change that this Sunday.
2. Goalie Sarah Coombs of Mathematics has allowed just one goal in two games, while Tommy Mayoros of the Mighty Squirrels has allowed just two. Both have promised to outperform their counterpart in this game.
3. The Mighty Squirrels’ Arthur “Lil Weezy” Revechkis has been practicing a new shot he calls the “Knuckle-Puck” all week. He plans to unveil it Sunday.
Denim Demons (2-0) vs. Mexican Standoff (0-2)
Location: Corlears North, 3:00 PM
All-Time Series: Denim Demons lead 5-0-1
Game Notes: In what is already being billed as the big “Ellery Revenge Game”, Mexican Standoff appears to have little chance on paper. Of course, the intangibles that Ellery brings to this game may be enough to surprise the Fightin’ Rubens.
Eli’s Pick: Denim Demons. They’ll show Ellery they’re doing just fine without him.
Derek’s Pick: Denim Demons
Filthy Gorgeous (0-2) vs. Fresh Kills (1-0-0-1)
Location: Corlears South, 3:00 PM
All-Time Series: Filthy Gorgeous leads 2-0
Game Notes: Fresh Kills has looked sluggish so far this season, while Filthy Gorgeous has struggled against last year’s two finalists. This could be the game that starts one of these teams on a hot streak.
Eli’s Pick: Filthy Gorgeous
Derek’s Pick: Fresh Kills. They showed brief flashes of brilliance in their game against Cobra Kai.
Dark Rainbows (1-1) vs. Tuques (0-2)
Location: Moffo, 3:00 PM
All-Time Series: Dark Rainbows lead 3-1
Game Notes: One of the highlights of the Tuques’ 2007 season was a shootout victory over the eventual champions.
Eli’s Pick: Dark Rainbows
Derek’s Pick: Dark Rainbows
What The Puck (2-0) vs. Cobra Kai (0-2)
Location: Corlears North, 4:00 PM
All-Time Series: What The Puck leads 2-0
Game Notes: Cobra Kai is coming off of two heart breaking losses, and their reward for that is a date with Coach Mad Dog and his high efficiency offense (coincidentally, the same reward that will be seen on Rock of Love 3).
Eli’s Pick: What the Puck. It appears Cobra Kai does not meet the height requirements.
Derek’s Pick: What the Puck. Poor Ski.
LBS (2-0) vs. Gouging Anklebiters (0-2)
Location: Corlears South, 4:00 PM
All-Time Series: LBS leads 7-1
Game Notes: The opposing captains, Phil “Sandy” Donohue and Sascha Puritz, went to the same high school together. There are local braggin’ rights at stake here!
Eli’s Pick: Gouging Anklebiters. If they can play a competitive game with Bob W in net, I’ll just assume they can do better with their own goalie.
Derek’s Pick: LBS. “Karsten and Brian” is the new “Karsten and Ken”.
Sky Fighters (2-0) vs. Happy Little Elves (1-1)
Location: Moffo, 4:00 PM
All-Time Series: First Meeting
Game Notes: The Sky Fighters have already eclipsed their win total from the 2007 regular season. Might they be the team to beat in 2008? Probably not.
Eli’s Pick: Sky Fighters. Martin is good.
Derek’s Pick: Sky Fighters. I agree: Martin is good.
Unicorns (1-1) vs. Rehabs (0-1-1)
Location: Corlears North, 5:00 PM
All-Time Series: Rehabs lead 7-5-1
Game Notes: There has been a lot of talk about $howT!m3 and Villano VI facing their former team (mostly from $howT!m3). However, the real story could be the battle between two of the self-proclaimed top goalies in the league.
Eli’s Pick: Rehabs. I wouldn’t be surprised if this game ends in a tie though.
Derek’s Pick: Unicorns
Bad Touch (0-2) vs. Corlears Hookers (2-0)
Location: Corlears South, 5:00 PM
All-Time Series: Corlears Hookers lead 1-0
Game Notes: Dutch’s Brother has promised to name his baby “Coop” if the Corlears Hookers lose.
Eli’s Pick: Corlears Hookers. Dutch will see to it that the new baby is named “Dutch’s Niece/Nephew”.
Derek’s Pick: Corlears Hookers. There can only be one true “Coop” anyway.
Media’s Records:
Eli: 9-7
Derek: 11-5
OK…..just for the record….not smack talking here but I NEVER HEARD ROMEO(REHABS) or CRAIG(UNICORNS)to self proclaim themselves to be the best. They every week whether they WIN OR LOSS always praise everyone else int he league. As much as “i love the media” that wasn’t a cool thing that was posted. Think about it before you post something like that!!! GOOD LUCK TO ALL THIS WEEKEND!!
Game Notes: The Sky Fighters have already eclipsed their win total from the 2007 regular season. Might they be the team to beat in 2008? Probably not.
nice work, newsies. keep betting against us. we like that.
