Week 4 Preview

Go To Bread

Welcome to Dutch Country

GAME OF THE WEEK
What The Puck (3-0) vs. Corlears Hookers (3-0)
Location:
Corlears North, 5:00 PM
All-Time Series: Corlears Hookers lead 2-0
Game Notes: This game features a classic matchup of high-octane offense versus rock-solid defense.  What The Puck currently boasts the most goals in the league with an average of six per game.  Three of BTSH’s top six goal scorers wear orange, with Larry “Mad Dog” Zimmer leading the way with six, and Mike “The X-Factor” Woodsworth and Tom MacDonald each chipping in four.  The Corlears Hookers pride themselves in their impenetrable defense, allowing just one goal through three games.  Goalie Chris Beauvois leads the league with two shutouts.  These teams last met in the 2007 semi-finals, when the Corlears Hookers ended What The Puck’s hopes for a second consecutive championship with a shootout victory.  What The Puck will be looking to even the score.
Keys to the Game:
1. Darrell “Accurate Bob” Hartman is a key cog in What The Puck’s well-oiled machine, but has missed the first three games.  Whether he shows for this game could go a long way in deciding the winner.
2. Despite the Corlears Hookers’ apparent focus on defense, Brendan “Dutch” Kearney and Gavin “Dutch’s Brother” Kearney are still capable of scoring a lot of goals and breaking a game wide open.
3. Roderick “Guy LeDouche” Cruz has recently started to learn the ancient art of voodoo.  He was seen this week sporting an Albert “Al” Huang voodoo doll with several pins in it.  Monitor Al’s performance closely.
Eli’s Pick: Corlears Hookers.  Good defense stops good offense.
Derek’s Pick: What The Puck.  Although their offense is leading the way this season, they also feature a solid defense anchored by grizzled veteran, Corey “Chongo” Winters.

Mexican Standoff (0-3) vs. Bad Touch (0-3)
Location:
Corlears North, 3:00 PM
All-Time Series: Tied 5-5
Game Notes: Both of these teams are looking for their first win of the season.  Hopefully, this game won’t end in a tie.
Eli’s Pick: Bad Touch
Derek’s Pick: Bad Touch

Tuques (0-3) vs. Mathematics (2-1)
Location:
Corlears South, 3:00 PM
All-Time Series: Mathematics lead 2-0
Game Notes: With Minkus still questionable with a foot injury for this game, the Tuques will likely have to put one of their defenders in goal for the third straight week.  For the Mathematics, Andy Pratt is itching for a goal after being held scoreless in the last two games.

Unicorns (1-2) vs. LBS (3-0)
Location:
Moffo, 3:00 PM
All-Time Series: LBS leads 7-5
Game Notes: LBS may be the elephant in the room this season, as they have won their first three games with little fanfare.  A win over Ug and his Unicorns could cause people to take notice.
Eli’s Pick: LBS.  They’re going to be even better when Ken “The Alpha Male” Poulin returns in a couple of weeks.
Derek’s Pick: LBS

Dark Rainbows (2-1) vs. Gouging Anklebiters (0-3)
Location:
Corlears North, 4:00 PM
All-Time Series: Dark Rainbows lead 4-0
Game Notes: Captain Phil “Sandy” Donohue will need a few tricks up his tight-fitting sleeves to beat the defending champion Dark Rainbows.
Eli’s Pick: Dark Rainbows
Derek’s Pick: Dark Rainbows.  Phil couldn’t possibly fit anything up his sleeves with those guns!

Sky Fighters (3-0) vs. Filthy Gorgeous (1-2)
Location:
Corlears South, 4:00 PM
All-Time Series: Filthy Gorgeous leads 1-0
Game Notes: Martin Cejka of the Sky Fighters is currently tied for the league lead with six goals.  Paul “Ashy Larry” Vernon sparked a four goal second half outburst last week to seal Filthy Gorgeous’s first win.
Eli’s Pick: Filthy Gorgeous.  They are going from ashy to classy.
Derek’s Pick: Sky Fighters.  I’ll say it again: Martin is good.

Rehabs (1-1-1) vs. Fresh Kills (1-1-0-1)
Location:
Moffo, 4:00 PM
All-Time Series: Fresh Kills lead 4-3
Game Notes: Will the Rehabs suffer a letdown after winning the much (self) hyped “$howT!m3 Revenge Game”?  Alex “Villano VI” Zabala has already given Fresh Kills plenty of semi-coherent bulletin board material.
Eli’s Pick: Rehabs
Derek’s Pick: Rehabs.  Last week, as he’s just about to leave the Johnson’s, Romeo stared maniacally into my eyes, and declared, “Never pick against us again.”  One of the scariest moments of my life.

Mighty Squirrels (2-0-1) vs. Happy Little Elves (1-2)
Location:
Corlears South, 5:00 PM
All-Time Series: First Meeting
Game Notes: Despite their similarity in having two of the less intimidating mascots in the league, these teams seem to be heading in opposite directions.  After a scoreless tie in week 1, the Mighty Squirrels have rebounded with two tough wins in a row and a case of beer to boot (which Andrea “Vegetable Lasagna” Schloeder surely will).  The Happy Little Elves have followed a first week win with two consecutive losses and a hazy future regarding their team name.
Eli’s Pick: Mighty Squirrels
Derek’s Pick: Mighty Squirrels.  Much has already been printed about the Squirrels’ new goalie, Tommy Mayoros, but the real difference this season could be star forward Al Sansoni.

Denim Demons (3-0) vs. Cobra Kai (0-3)
Location:
Moffo, 5:00 PM
All-Time Series: Denim Demons lead 2-0
Game Notes: This game features two of the media’s favorite captains to mimic.
Eli’s Pick: Cobra Kai.  They really need to get a win.
Derek’s Pick: Denim Demons

Media’s Records:
Eli:
16-8
Derek: 17-7
