{"id":10536,"date":"2015-04-09T01:49:47","date_gmt":"2015-04-09T05:49:47","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.btsh.org\/bruise\/?p=10536"},"modified":"2015-04-09T01:49:47","modified_gmt":"2015-04-09T05:49:47","slug":"2015-preview-h0wtm3-division","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.miyagimedia.com\/bruise\/2015-preview-h0wtm3-division\/","title":{"rendered":"2015 Preview- $h0wT!m3 DIVISION"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>oI really thought going to <a class=\"zem_slink\" href=\"http:\/\/maps.google.com\/maps?ll=45.4,-75.6666666667&#038;spn=10.0,10.0&#038;q=45.4,-75.6666666667 (Canada)&#038;t=h\" title=\"Canada\" rel=\"geolocation\" target=\"_blank\">Canada<\/a> and changing my identity was a great way to get out of the lifetime contract that I blindly signed to write for the BTSH website for life. \u00a0Unfortunately, Richie was able to track down my new phone number and guilt me into writing a preview. \u00a0<\/p>\n<p>I obviously have no more than a general idea of how each team looks this season, but I like to think that me and my 6 goals in 2014 are uniquely qualified to judge talent and rank teams. \u00a0As I&#8217;ve retired from BTSH to take on my new role as the league&#8217;s official <a class=\"zem_slink\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Mike_Milbury\" title=\"Mike Milbury\" rel=\"wikipedia\" target=\"_blank\">Mike Milbury<\/a>, please enjoy\u00a0my arbitrary and biased previews of the\u00a0$h0wT!m3 DIVISION. \u00a0With in-line links, because that makes it look official.<\/p>\n<p><strong>5: Mathematics<\/strong><br \/>Last season: Glanzer Division, 12-6-0, <del>Championship<br \/><\/del>Most apt <a class=\"zem_slink\" href=\"http:\/\/www.nhl.com\/\" title=\"National Hockey League\" rel=\"homepage\" target=\"_blank\">NHL<\/a> team comparison: The <a class=\"zem_slink\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Pittsburgh_Penguins\" title=\"Pittsburgh Penguins\" rel=\"wikipedia\" target=\"_blank\">Pittsburgh Penguins<\/a> (star power, organizational hubris, playoff collapses)<\/p>\n<p>Math is clearly the league&#8217;s Penguins. \u00a0Since winning the Norris lottery a few seasons ago, the team had all the makings to be a perennial powerhouse. \u00a0Combined with stalwart leadership in the Derek\/Eli dictator\u00a0borg and an uncanny ability to lure big name free agents like Joey Batista, Math had all the makings of a dynasty to come. \u00a0 But every year,\u00a0the playoffs happen\u00a0and Math doesn&#8217;t have an answer. \u00a0Last year, it was\u00a0a loss to\u00a0the Hookers, setting up one of the most boring matchups in BTSH finals history (even though the game itself was exciting). \u00a0I still haven&#8217;t really forgiven them for that.<\/p>\n<p>The name of the game is playoff success. \u00a0When you crash and burn in the semis with such lofty expectations, you find yourself coming in at the bottom of the power rankings. \u00a0I&#8217;m in Canada. What are you gonna do aboot\u00a0it?\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong>4: Gouging Anklebiters<\/strong><br \/>Last season:\u00a0$h0wT!m3\u00a0Division, 11-6-1<br \/>Most apt NHL team comparison:\u00a0<a class=\"zem_slink\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/New_York_Islanders\" title=\"New York Islanders\" rel=\"wikipedia\" target=\"_blank\">New York Islanders<\/a> (dark horse team, established\u00a0core, plays hockey in New York)<\/p>\n<p>I gave the Biters the Islanders for two reasons. \u00a0One is that I thought it would grind Rich&#8217;s gears, but the other is that I see this team as having a core that&#8217;s been together for at least as long as I&#8217;ve been around BTSH (one season give or take a few weeks). \u00a0Talking about people\u00a0like\u00a0Worky, Suz, Caroline, as well as the dynamic duo of Sarah Moore and Shelley Maasdorp. \u00a0Just a good, solid, reliable roster all around.<\/p>\n<p>In all seriousness, these guys are in fourth place, but it&#8217;s less about them and mostly about the strength of the\u00a0$h0wT!m3 in general (it&#8217;s a pretty strong division). \u00a0I think they are my dark horse pick to do some damage in the division. \u00a0That&#8217;s not really based on anything. \u00a0None of this is really. \u00a0None of this really matters.<\/p>\n<p><strong>3: Instant Karma (formerly La Famiglia\/Tuques)<\/strong><br \/>Last Season:\u00a0$h0wT!m3 Division, 12-5-1<br \/>Most apt NHL team comparison: <a class=\"zem_slink\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Winnipeg_Jets_%281972%E2%80%9396%29\" title=\"Winnipeg Jets (1972\u201396)\" rel=\"wikipedia\" target=\"_blank\">Winnipeg Jets<\/a> (franchise name change, white uniforms)<\/p>\n<p>IK\/Tuques\/Famiglia\/whatever was always one of those teams that I felt like could win any game they played. \u00a0I only played against them once and reffed them a couple of times but they have a lot of people on the roster who do hockey things on a regular basis, like cycle the puck and establish a forecheck and block passing lanes on defense. \u00a0Because of that, I have them solidly in number 3 here.<\/p>\n<p>I guess where the Jets comparison fails is that IK actually has a bonafide star (Denis Miciletto), whereas <a class=\"zem_slink\" href=\"http:\/\/maps.google.com\/maps?ll=49.8994444444,-97.1391666667&#038;spn=0.1,0.1&#038;q=49.8994444444,-97.1391666667 (Winnipeg)&#038;t=h\" title=\"Winnipeg\" rel=\"geolocation\" target=\"_blank\">Winnipeg<\/a> doesn&#8217;t. \u00a0IK has a good supporting cast, too, though. \u00a0Maybe the strength of the rebrand will push them deeper into the playoffs this season.<\/p>\n<p><strong>2: <a class=\"zem_slink\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/List_of_recurring_The_Simpsons_characters\" title=\"List of recurring The Simpsons characters\" rel=\"wikipedia\" target=\"_blank\">Happy Little Elves<\/a><\/strong><br \/>Last Season:\u00a0$h0wT!m3\u00a0Division, 12-6-0<br \/>Most apt NHL team comparison: Boston Bruins (tallest player, love-em-or-hate-em bunch, chippy, in-your-face game)<\/p>\n<p>Another storied franchise that has carried the burden of expectations just short of the goal line in recent years. \u00a0The Elves&#8217;
