\nUPDATE
\nfolks, it’s a new season with new personnel and new proceedures. i’m sure that we’ll have a few bumps to clear, and we’ll tighten up the details as we proceed. but so far, things look promising!<\/p>\n
the weekly recaps of sunday’s events this season will be written by eli kazin of cobra kai. eli is a talented writer and is very motivated to bring you amusing anecdotes from the league’s activities. make sure to be in touch with him with your own observations and stories about what transpires on sundays.<\/p>\n
originally i was going to include eli’s column within this general email posting, but his review is so involved and complete that i think that it deserves to stand alone. it follows this email.<\/p>\n

\n*HOCKEY TOURNEY FOR AMERICAN CANCER SOCIETY*<\/p>\n
You like hockey. You hate cancer. You like playing hockey to beat cancer.
\nBE PART OF THIS FUN AND IMPORTANT TOURNEY!<\/p>\n
For the 2nd year BTSH’s Ed Lau is organizing a fundraiser for the American Cancer Society. Last year the event raised over $3000! This is good for everybody, and it gives our league a good name. All the details are at:<\/p>\n

What: Street hockey tournament with a 3 game guarantee and possible playoff
\ngames.<\/p>\n
When: Saturday April 28th, registration (signing a waiver and paying the
\nentry fee) begins at 8:30am, the games will start at 9:30am sharp (yes, they
\ndid start at 9:40am last year). Expected ending time will be 4pm.<\/p>\n
Who: Anyone over 18 who can play a clean, non-contact game of street hockey
\nfor a great cause.<\/p>\n
Where: Tanahey Park\/Moffo rink in downtown Manhattan near Cherry and
\nCatherine.<\/p>\n
How: There will be 8 teams. All players will be randomly assigned to the 8
\nteams to ensure that there is an equal distribution of males, females and
\ntalent across the teams. There will be two simultaneous games running, one
\nin the hockey rink and one on the basketball courts adjacent to the rink.
\nThere will be 2 divisions with 4 teams each and there will be three 40
\nminute games round-robin style per team. This will be followed by a playoff
\ngame between the top teams from each division. If time permits, there will
\nbe a semi-final playoff round preceding the finals.<\/p>\n
There is a $25 entry fee and that goes directly to the American Cancer
\nSociety.
