<\/a><\/p>\nColor:<\/strong> Gray <\/p>\n After another disappointing season in 2009, Mathematics captain Derek Tagliarino recognized\u00a0the daunting task facing him.\u00a0 He noted, “Something had to be done.\u00a0 We had won nine\u00a0[regular season] games\u00a0in the last two\u00a0years.\u00a0 This may be a\u00a0fun, social league, but it’s tough to have a good time when you lose that much.\u00a0 We really needed a team makeover.”<\/p>\n The makeover actually began towards the end of last season with the additions of Justin “Ballard” Perras and Mike Smith to tighten up the Mathematics’ defense, which was the statistically the league’s worst.\u00a0 However,\u00a0Perras and Smith were only the first pieces of the puzzle.\u00a0\u00a0Thus, after\u00a0a busy\u00a0offseason of acquisitions,\u00a0a buzz is now in the air among the Mathematics’\u00a0diminutive but loyal fanbase (the Math Addicts).\u00a0\u00a0With some of the hottest young talents signing on, the\u00a0the team’s supporters\u00a0have reason to be optimistic for the upcoming season.\u00a0 Tagliarino remains a little more cautious\u00a0about prognosticating, “Unfortunately, you don’t win anything for doing well\u00a0in\u00a0the Hot Stove League.\u00a0 Even if you did, it doesn’t always translate into wins.”<\/p>\n With 2009’s All Rookie Team goalie Joe Boshko battling injuries, the Mathematics’ first task was to find a suitable replacement.\u00a0 What they found was one of the\u00a0 league’s biggest personalities in Hector “$howT!m3” Melendez.\u00a0 Although he has played very few BTSH games as a net-minder, Melendez boasts a great record and is versatile enough to play offense if Boshko is healthy.\u00a0 Also new to the team are Sean “$howJu” McClain (also on the ’09 All Rookie Team) and Scott Lee, two 20-year old sensations\u00a0who are sure to give their new team a\u00a0fresh jolt of energy.\u00a0 Tagliarino comments, “It’s bizarre to me to have two players born in the 1990s, although I guess it’s just as bizarre that Father Time [Ant Ventolieri] and (S)crappy [Tim Gray] are still in the league with birth years in the 1920s.”<\/p>\n If nothing else, the Mathematics are hopeful that their new youthful additions will give the team some much needed swagger, something they claim was missing in the past few seasons.<\/p>\n
