Street hockey need not go into hibernation just because BTSH takes a break. Be part of the NY Rangers\/Parks Dept. program that introduces New York City kids to the sport of hockey through an indoor winter street hockey program. We need volunteer coaches to show the kids what it\u2019s all about \u2014 stick handling, passing, shooting, scoring!<\/p>\n

Never coached or worked with kids before? No problem. You\u2019ll get all the training and tools that you need. Wonder if you\u2019re qualified? If you meet these requirements, then you\u2019re qualified:<\/p>\n

— know how to play hockey
— can communicate
— love hockey, and want to give NYC kids a chance to love hockey, too!<\/p>\n

Please see the message from our Parks liaison, and BTSH member, Sarah. There\u2019s a training session\u00a0this Saturday, where you can get screened on-site. I\u2019ll be there, along with other coaches from BTSH from last season. Why not bring a teammate with you and coach together? And if you\u2019re not sure about making a commitment, we have lots of part-time coaches. Even if you can help out once a month, it\u2019s a huge help, and it\u2019ll mean the kids will get the instruction they need to learn and love the game.<\/p>\n

There\u2019s also some nice perks for the volunteer coaches \u2014 a free uniform, possibly free Rangers tickets, and other surprises.<\/p>\n

We’re getting closer to the start of the NYC Parks Street Hockey program and we are still looking for volunteers. If you are interested please fill out the attached Volunteer Application and email it to my work email:\u00a0sarah.cantatore@parks.nyc.gov<\/a><\/span><\/span>. I need to have them no later than Thursday, November 21st.

Volunteer Orientation will be\u00a0Saturday, November 23 from 10am to 3pm\u00a0at Chelsea Recreation Center. (Returning volunteers that have been fingerprinted already can come at\u00a011am). Please bring a photo ID. We’ll have equipment but you may want to bring your stick, especially since there will be a volunteer vs. staff scrimmage!

Also, online registration is now open for the program here:\u00a0http:\/\/www.nycgovparks.org\/programs\/recreation\/street-hockey<\/a><\/span><\/span>. Please send out the link to friends and family, and be sure to register your kids! The link also has the complete schedule of clinics to help you decide where you may want to volunteer.
