April 26, Pay for Charity, Win for Glory Part 2

Monday, April 14th, 2014

So one of our big things is not to repost stuff. Or do Playher interviews. But that’s for another time.

Anyways, we are reposting this because there were no games yesterday and this is a lot of fun. I went to it once in 2010, played on Derk’s wife’s Michelle’s team, went 0-2-1 then snuck on another team and won the championship. Joe P. and Suvin also did the same thing as me but Rachel Greene only thinks one of us is an asshole.  Anyways, go to this event, its fun and the after-party is usually epic. At least it was in 2010 when Caroline smacked Joe P. 50 times for being a Flyers fan. It was deserved.

Charity Hockey Tournament Coming Soon!

The sixth annual charity street hockey tournament is rapidly approaching. This year, it will take place on Saturday, April 9, and all proceeds will go to Rose Charities. Rose is a non-profit organization that aims to help children and young adults who have suffered through poverty, disaster, exploitation, or lack of opportunity. It currently has 11 Disaster Relief Teams on the ground in Japan providing medical care, food, and medical supplies. Please donate to support these teams!

The tournament begins at 9:30 AM sharp, and anyone who does not pre-register online must arrive at 8:30.  Although everyone is encouraged to give more than the minimum, certain contributions will get you the following:

  • $35 donation to play
  • $50 donation to play and get a tournament t-shirt (shirts also available for $20 day-of)
  • $70 donation to play on the same team as a friend

Visit http://www.charityhockeytournament.myevent.com to register, RSVP, and find more information.  If you have any additional questions, please contact Rachel “A-Korn” Greene, who is organizing the event.

In addition, the Fishmarket (111 South Street) is the bar sponsor for the tournament.  Post-tournament specials include $2 Miller Lites, $5 well drinks, and several appetizers.  They are donating 25% of the profits from that night to Rose, so come drink even if you can’t make the tournament.

BTSH Food Drive, Take 2

Canned Food

With “rain fears” washing away last week’s attempted food drive, BTSH will try once again this Sunday, October 4.  Everyone is encouraged to bring food to Tompkins, where BTSH representatives will gather it and drop it off at the Bowery Mission. If you would like to help, the league still needs people to help collect everything and drivers to drop off the food (this will likely be done in waves as opposed to waiting until all games are done). Anyone wishing to volunteer, please contact Ed Lau.

Canned Food

As the season winds down and the holidays approach, BTSH wants to make a difference.  On Sunday, Sept 27th, the league is going to help the less fortunate through a food drive.  It’s simple.  Bring food to your game, and BTSH representatives will collect it and drop it off at the Bowery Mission.  If you would like to help, the league needs volunteers with cars to help drop off the food (this will likely be done in waves as opposed to waiting until all games are done).  Anyone wishing to help, please contact Ed Lau.

Even More Hockey This Weekend

Good Karma

This weekend, “Con” Ed Lau will once again be hosting his annual hockey tournament to benefit the American Cancer Society.  This will be Ed’s third year running the tournament, and every year, it’s a lot of fun and a great chance to play a ton of hockey.  Plus, it will also give you a chance to check out the refurbished Moffo, if you haven’t seen it yet.

If you want to play hockey for a good cause, show up this Saturday (April 19) at 8:30 AM or 9:30 AM, if you pre-register.  Minimum donation is $25 to play, but additional donations are welcome, even if you are unable to attend.

For more information, contact Ed Lau or Liza Watts.
